Go for it. You've got nothing to lose by giving someone the IMEI of your phone.

Apart from the fact they could permanently lock the phone, rendering it completely useless Smiley

I thought the networks could block on IMEIs? Isn't that how they deal with stolen handsets?

An IMEI number is a SIM card serial number, as far as I know (and I'm not an expert on this) it has no bearing on the handset whatsoever.

That said I believe there is a alternative method of blockinh handsets.

IMEI = International Mobile Equipment Identifier and is nothing to do with the sim.

Theoretically other Tans, if he acquired the IMEI of Fred's phone, could blacklist the IMEI from the networks.

Yeah IMEI is used to identify the handset. The sim number is just called the sim number and is the long one on the sim starting 8944 (I have to deal with this at work).

You can't lock someones sim with their IMEI number. You could probably lock the handset I suppose, if for example it was an O2 contract handset and you worked for O2.

I have given him the imei. The question mark was the fact that I have not heard anything back from him
