Title: The NFL Thread
Post by: pumbaa on Sunday, September 10, 2006, 20:08:37
If you don't like American Football, please keep the fuck out  :soapy tit wank:

The Cincinnati Bengals kicked off with a convincing 23-10 win over the Kansas City Chiefs today. The best news for Bengals fans was the successful return of QB Carson Palmer who orchestrated the no-huddle Offence into scoring two TDs. Ohio derby next week vs the Browns in Cincy .

I know OST is a Bengals fan, and IIRC, Spuddy is a Tennassee Inbreds (sorry, Titans) fan - anyone else want to nail their colours to a mast?

Shit ! :x  Bloody Broncos threw interception after interception to start the season with a 18-10 defeat at the Rams (who are as poor as the Dolphins were at the beginning of last season).

So, will it be bye bye Plummer and hello Cutler ?

I used to follow the Dolphins as their quarterback was named after a small European country. My mum got me a Texas Titans sweater and a Tampa Bay Buccaneers T shirt so can I have 3 teams?

My sister won 500 quid betting on Pittsburgh winning on Saturday.

Talking of Cheerleaders, and fatbury the perv mentioned them earlier, the sights and sounds of watching a bunch of under-age young girls prancing around screaming 'Beavers are best' is a little disturbing (this is in reference to the Beavercreek Beavers, a local high school team close by, before you ask). Very surreal in middle America.

Anyway, back on topic, I've eaten in the very same private room of a very fine dining establishment in Indianapolis that is reserved for Peyton Manning, the Colts QB. He's still a cunt though  :soapy tit wank:

Reminded me of a post that a mate made on a different forum:

Reminds me of GB V Aus Rugby League test at Wembley 1990ish:

The RL have pulled out all the stops to make it "family entertainment" There's some C-lister leading the singing, there are flags, dancing 'bulldogs' & 'kangaroos' everyone's wearing a hat with corks, flags are being waved and we're all having a jolly good time. They even have some dancing girls - a bunch in Green & Gold and another in Red White & Blue. The sun is shining, God's in his heaven and all is well, kids are laughing into their (overpriced) icecream. As kick off approaches the girls leave the field and we're stood (them were t' days!) near the tunnel. As they skip off waving to the crowd and the crowd smiling and waving back, some gobshite behind us shouts:

"Show us yer fannies!"

That was one hell of a good start for the Bengals. To win at The Arrowhead on opening day is absolulutely top drawer. Apparently the Offence were not that great for once but the D was 'awesome' as they say on the other side of the pond.  I saw a few limited highlights on Sky and on the web. The hit on Green looked pretty nasty and I can understand the accusations of it being a 'cheap shot' from Geathers. I think he may get punished for that.

I notice neither Coach did a post-match interview. I assume it was to avoid conroversy regarding that incident. Marvyn Lewis and Herm Edwards go back a long way and I imagine they did not want to get drawn into what might have been seen as a public slanging match.

Elsewhere, it was a hell of a result for The Ravens winning 27-0 at Tampa Bay. I was also quite surprised to see the Rams beat the Broncos - SIX field goals though FFS! Boring or what?

Anyway, it's looking good for the Bengals but it looks like the AFC North is going to be even harder this year!

WHO DEY!

As they say in Cincinnati 8)

They seem to be quite highly rated this year. They have a half decent QB now with Steve McNair replacing Kyle Boller, which helps.

Yeah, the QB was always our weak spot, even the year we won the Superbowl. Might actually be able to move the ball now instead of relying on the D-FENSE!

I can't see the Super Bowl winner coming from the NFC in a month of Sundays.

I therefore reckon the AFC Final will be between Indianapolis and San Diego and the winner of that will win the whole thing.

Which is a roundabout way of saying San Diego for the Super Bowl!

Chargers were by far the best team a couple of weeks ago. We'll have to see what a week's rest will do to them.

Colts didn't look convincing against KC yesterday. Dallas were really unlucky against the Seahawks. Just gonna go and watch the end of the 2nd with Eagles (10) vs Giants (7) - neither team have been particularly impressive this season.

Would like to see Colts win it all for Manning and Harrison. They ain't getting any younger and I think this is their last big chance of glory. They should have won it all last year as they were by far the best team in the league in the regular season. Not going to be easy for them to go to Baltimore next week. We'll see.

P.S. Think we'll forget about the end of the season for both the Broncos and the Bengals eh coxernator !

It wasn't really. Giants played their typical game. When their offence does something big then the defence lets them down. Eagles milked the clock well in the last 5 minutes, using every second to get to field goal range.

Whats that old addage about having destiny in your own hands.....

FWIW, and from what I have seen this season, its all about San Diego tbh. If they make it, the Colts can not beat the Chargers as the Colts run defence is more porous than the levees in New Orleans, and the Chargers has the BEST RB in the NFL in LaDanian Tomlinson.

Frankly, I don't care who wins now as neither Cincinnati or Pittsburgh (scum) can't.

Just found this thread, and was pleased to see a few other Jets fans on here....whenever the NFL first appeared on Channel 4 was when I started to follow them.

Last night was not suprising, but the screw up with the backwards pass was a new way to bugger it up.  You can always rely on the Jets to find new and inventive ways to lose a game.

Long term though, I'm optimistic.  Mangini and staff are doing a good job, and Washington looks like he might just be a player.

Supporting the Jets and Swindon is one hell of a stressful combination....just glad I'm not alone.

You wanna try supporting the fucking Bengals then. If any team can discover the secret formula to monumentally fucking themselves over, its the Bengals. But as OST will testify, they're strip is the best-looking in the NFL even if all they're cheerleaders come from Kentucky (and are, by default, all inbred).

Anyway, in true American spirit, GO BENGALS (next season   )

And to add to the weird name list, I'll offer up T J Houshmanzadah (sp)

And I forgot to add, they're kit is predominantly orange, which is a good thing, right?

Hey ! What about them Broncos !

Only need not to lose at home against the worst team in the league. What do they do ? Lose in OT !

Them Broncos play partially in orange and their defence are nicknamed the 'Orange Crush'.

As for names, what about good ole Ebanezer Ekuban.

Plus, one of the Broncos best young players (Darrent Williams) was shot after the game in the early hours of new year's day !  :(

Ebanezer Ekuban runs D'Brickashaw Ferguson a very close second indeed.

T J Whoesyermumma for the Bengals is pretty good also (As well as being a damned good player)

Other personal favourites are Jeremiah Trotter of the Eagles who sounds like a character from a Dickens novel rather than the NFL and Richie Incognito of the Rams. And what about Antwaan Randle El ???

What is that all about?

You wanna try supporting the fucking Bengals then. If any team can discover the secret formula to monumentally fucking themselves over, its the Bengals. But as OST will testify, they're strip is the best-looking in the NFL even if all they're cheerleaders come from Kentucky (and are, by default, all inbred).

I guess what I mean isn't that the Jets have been the worst team over the past however many years, but it's the way they do it....

Back in the late 90s we lost to Denver in the AFC Championship game, the following season we were tipped by many to go all the way....but lost our QB (Testeverde) about a day before the season started, and that was that.

Last year, we lost two QBs inside 7 plays on the opening day....so that sucked too.... :(

Bill Belichick was our head coach for a day too.

Oh yeah, and it was us who hit Bledsoe so hard that the Pats had to play untried Tom Brady, who has proceeded to be awesome.

In short, it can really suck being a Jet, but I wouldn't change it for the world (and especially not those establishment blue scum)

Just for you, they did, field goal in overtime.

Two nail-biting games yesterday, the other resulting in the New England Patriots surprisingly beating the San Diego Chargers in another close game - didn't see the last three minutes due to the 2 hour premiere of 24 Season 6 - Birdy, you'll love it

So, its the Bears hosting the New Orleans Saints for the NFC title, and the Indianapolis Colts at home to the Patriots for the AFC. I'm predicting a Saints/Patriots Superbowl

Good to see the Patriots go through though - they'd be good for the SuperBowl if they got through... The last couple have been disappointing (excluding the occasion ace moment)

The Cincinnati Bengals: Four Questions and Five Observations

Q. What do you call a drug ring in Cincinnati?
A.  A huddle.

Q. Four Cincinnati Bengals in a car, who's driving?
A. The  police.

Q. Why can't Chris Henry get into a huddle on the field  anymore?
A, It is a parole violation for him to associate with known felons.

Q. How do the Bengals spend their first week at mini-camp?
A. Studying the Miranda  Rights.

**********

1. The Bengals had a 8 and 5 season this year: 8 arrests (literally), 5 convictions.

2. The Bengals knew they had to do something for their defense, but they couldn't get the defensive coordinator they really wanted: Johnny Cochran

3. The Cincinnati newspapers reported yesterday that Paul Brown Stadium is going to take out the artificial turf because the Bengals "play better on grass."

4. Coach Marvin Lewis has adopted a new "Honor System" for his players - "Yes your Honor, No your  Honor".

5. Bengals Out of Playoffs - Police on Alert

Superbowl Sunday. Its hard to look beyond the Colts, but I have a sneaky feeling that Manning will bottle it and the Bears will win.

Used to live in the Baltimore area in the mid 90s and got used to lots of Colts bashing (For those who don't know the franchise left Baltimore in the 80s because Baltimore refused to help finance a new stadium). Because of that I've always had a soft spot for them, especially as they used to be awful !

As for the Bears, I've never got over my dislike because of the media love of William 'The Fridge' Perry and Steve McMahon.

So, Sunday afternoon will be time to 'Go Colts !'

NMH

P.S. Work with a bloke from Cleveland who is a big Browns fan. He hates it when I keep asking him why he doesn't wear black and purple now his team has changed colours ! (Browns moved to Baltimore in the late 90s. There was uproar and Cleveland were eventually allowed to bring another franchise to their town. )

Yep, pretty predictable stuff. Thought when the Bears ran the ball back for a touchdown on the opening play that it was going to be their day. However, when the Colts took a lead into 1/2 time I don't think the result was ever in doubt.

Cracking start to the game I thought. Nice to see a couple of fumbles, interceptions, turnovers and of course the punt return. Fucking awesome.

Grossman sucks and was never going to be a superbowl winning QB, whereas you can see Manning's class after a slow start.

My mate tipped the Colts in the regualr season and I think put some money on them.

Four Super Bowl FACTS!

1. Fantastic start to the game,  Absolutely unbelievable. Devin Hester, when it comes to kick off returns, YOU are the daddy!

2. The constant torrential rain spoilt the game to a large degree.

3. Rex Grossman is a f*****g turkey! The Bears have to get a half decent experienced QB in Free Agency (Plummer from Denver perhaps? or even Bledsoe from Dallas)

4. Don Johnson STILL rules 20 years on!

You've obviously seen more of Plummer than I have so I bow to your better judgement but the Bears definitely need a half decent experienced QB otherwise they aint going to win no Super Bowl any time soon. That is a FACT!

She asks the class to raise their hands if they too are Bears fans. Everyone in the class raises their hand except one little girl. The teacher looks at the girl with surprise and says: "Mary, why didn't you raise your hand?"

"I'm a Colts fan, and proud of it," Mary replied.

The teacher could not believe her ears. "Well Mary, might you explain why are you a Colts fan?"

"Because my mom and dad are from Indianapolis and my mom is a Colts fan and my dad is a Colts fan, so I'm a Colts fan too!"

"Well," said the teacher, in an obviously annoyed tone, "that's no reason for you to be a Colts fan. You don't have to be just like your parents all of the time. What if your mom was a prostitute and your dad was a drug addict and a car thief, what would you be then?"

Mary said, "I'd be a Bengals fan."

Agree with most of that especially the rain - spoiled the game a bit - how many fumbles!!!

Felt sorry for Mmmmmm Mohammed (Bears) or whatever his name was.
He played really well considering the misfiring Grossman, but was boo-ed by the entire stadium, especially when he scored.
I assume because he converted to Islam the Yanks hate him.

But how quickly the Yanks forget that their "greatest sportsman of all time" Muhammed Ali, was also an Islamic convert!
You don't see entire audiences boo-ing him every time he appears.

 A bit like Town fans 'mooing' at Steve Cow(e) a few years back. It's very hard to discern the difference beween 'moos' and 'boos' 8)
