Carl Smyth sings a fair few other songs too.

Otherwise known as Chas Smash.

Was good to see the Specials again, just a bit of a shame that Jerry Dammers couldn't be persuaded to make it.

At the end of the day though it's music for old farts...lot of strong messages, not sure if they're still relevant.

Ghost Town has exactly the same relevance now as it did back then.

Quote
This town, is coming like a ghost town
Why must the youth fight against themselves?
Government leaving the youth on the shelf
This place, is coming like a ghost town
No job to be found in this country
Can't go on no more
The people getting angry

Oh dear, but saying that my neice was in the same situation at 17 herself, so there is a certain amount of relevance still to the lyrics.

I couldn't disagree more...in terms of education, training and support services for young people this has been a golden age....the fact that many of them are too feckless to make anything of the opportunities, doesn't alter the fact that opportunities are there.

Back in the days of the Specials, we were just heading into the full effects of the spending cuts made by Thatcher's first government, and the ugly spectre of mass unemployment rearing it's head.

It will be a few years yet before we re-visit the full horror of a Tory government.

There is indeed nothing wrong with healthy disagreement, but when its on every post it does become boring.

Each Day I walk along this lonely street
Trying to find, find a future
New pair of shoes are on my feet
Cos' fashion is my only culture.

or how about....

The Mickey Mouse badge told the Ayatollah at his feet
You drink your oil you schmuck, we'll eat our heads of wheat
