A knighthood doesn't make you a peer, which is why there's a bunch of Sir Whatevers in the commons |

Years ago in the magazine Private Eye, there was an explanation why Lester Piggott did not receive a knighthood. Apparently, he said something unflattering about Prince Phillip at a race meeting that was overheard by Her Royal Highness.
