Whereabouts did they clamp your vehicle - work, home, street parking?

I always do mine at the end of the month due to pay day. You have 7 days to renew after.

Not sure you have that luxury anymore, I believe they changed the rules. If it has run out, thats the end of it.

Apaarently they're not issuing reminders anymore, so a note to everyone.

I parked mine on a road near where I work. No idea how they would have seen that, no wardens round here.

£100 release fee, another £160 cos I have no disc, although they'll refund it when I show them I have got one.

seems a bit harsh. I'm not one to avoid paying for things, just had no idea!

£100 just before pay day rules me out of orient saturday though. cnuts.

so how do you get a new disc without a reminder form? just go into post office with usual sh*t, MOT and what not?

Title: Re: car tax
Post by: nevillew on Monday, February 22, 2010, 10:51:24
They issue renewal notices though as that gives a reference to renew on line. I didn't think they ever issued reminders.

that's what I meant, but they're not doing that anymore. Nice of them to tell us. Apparently it's on a tv ad.

I guess there'll be a form to fill out, but not all post offices do road fund licenses now. You'll need registration document, Insurance certificate and MOT certificate(and these days probably ID as well) Have you changed addresses in the last year and not notified them ?

Really?!

So you can't renew online anymore?

Title: Re: car tax
Post by: dell boy on Monday, February 22, 2010, 10:56:13
It so much easier to pay for your tax over the phone these days and doesn't cost a penny more if you are using a debit card, there is a charge for a credit card.

I got my renewal form a week ago and paid online... Easy as pie

no, not changed address. Got everything else.

I'm livid. Would anyone else know when to pay it if they didn;t get the renewal notice?

This would suggest you can still renew online

er, yes, but I'm a bit paranoid about things like this - mine runs out in June.

my thoughts exactly, renewals come with a 12/16 digit code thats needed to get new tax, this code proves that you have mot/insurance, without either of these the renewal will still come through the post but without the code.

I can tell you they do send renewals forms as most of them come through us at work. We sort thousands of them.

Where abouts do you live, postcode? I can find the people responsible for sorting them and hit them or something!!

A few years back I went about 9 months without renewing my tax disc. Eventually I got a fine notice put on my car, went down the post office and got one sharpish (they had to dig around out the back to find the right disc). Never heard anything else about the fine so I guess I got away with it.

No real excuse for not renewing it is there, seeing as you'll walk past and be sat two foot away from the tax disc every time you use your car. Bad news getting clamped though, didn't know they were doing that. Who is it that clamps it, the council?

tax discs shuold be double sided so when you're in the car you can see the expiry date.

don't really look at it TBH. I was clamped by the white city commpound, loads of dvla stuff in the thing attached to my window.

Think I've just been unlucky, but still a bit fucked off.

Title: Re: car tax
Post by: dell boy on Monday, February 22, 2010, 13:53:07
The police can compound your car for not having it taxed. Mostly they give you a fine on the spot though (bastards), they can give you a fine on the spot for doing anything these days (bastards), even having a leak at the side of the road behind bushes out of sight of anyone else, after you've been sat in a traffic jam for three hours (bastards).

You were very unlucky to get clamped, has someone stitched you up?

When we played Fulham did you notice the vehicle being clamped and then within 15 minutes the tow truck arrived and bye bye car.

Why? There's no need for that as the date is the other side of the glass. Hardly an effort to look.

Don't mean to be harsh Juddie, but am afraid you should have looked and know when your tax disc runs out.

I think it was at Fulham that I saw signs saying you could be fined £50 for dropping a cigarette butt. That is well tight. Different world up in London for us country bumpkins.

The coppers will come and get you, unless of course you have changed your car since the fine.

Changed that car years ago. The police are fucking stupid. I also should have lost my license in my first year of drving for picking up 6 points. I got caught by a red light camera in Wales and when the letter arrived asking me who was driving I just ignored it as I knew I would lose my license so decided it couldn't be any worse.

They sent me a few more letters but eventually gave up. 3 years passed and having lost my paper part I applied for a new one and got it back minus all my points!

HAHA, fucking retards.

ye but who does that? its not a daily routine, "oh lets go check when my car tax runs out" atleast if it was in the car you'd notice it.

Indeed. This happened to a friend last week in East London. They have moved the public cigarette bins outside a big office block, where the smokers congregate. They then had two people watching the spot from the other side of the road and issued a constant stream of £50 fines through the day. It's pretty much entrapment.

I had two renewal/SORN notices through for my Minis a couple of weeks ago. They won't stop issuing them as they want to catch those declaring SORN and continuing to use the vehicle on the road. They make more money out of them.
