Has Clayton declared for Scotland? I thought he was Liverpool local.
Wiki has him down as Scottish, albeit doesn't seem to say why in the text. I assume much like the Scottish Matt Richie born in Portsmouth and IIRC had never actually been to Scotland till he declared for them,

He's played 6 times for Scotland Under 21s scoring twice.
A 1 in 3 scoring record. Not bad for a CH!

Retired? In football terms he must be ancient by now.

You get the impression that FBT does not want to go back to them, judging what he said said previously in interviews - so depends if they have had any interest in him and think they can sell him and get a few ££,xxx, or leave him here on loan and they aren't paying his wages anyway and just let his contract run out

You'd think a team in Burton's position would have recalled him straight away if they had any desire to do so.

We have seen that defenders good enough to handle Div 4 football do not necessarily manage it a level above. FBT is competent, reliable, Rob Hunt like. Rob Hunt like players will be in relegation teams in League One.

Looking like we’re not taking up the option of buying Jephcott according to the Adver and Sandro

Not in the January window. Didn’t rule it in or out later.

Going back to the Reed fee a bit, I thought this was interesting on the Stags side: https://www.chad.co.uk/sport/football/gillingham-joint-deal-for-mansfield-town-stars-too-good-to-turn-down-3990347(Firstly, their paper is called the Ashfield Chad - how odd) But Clough is quoted as saying "“Then we received this joint offer from Gillingham for Oli Hawkins and George Lapslie which I believe will rise to six figures if Gillingham stay in the league." Rising to six figures on a double deal after conditions suggests the Reed fee really wouldn't have been large. Not sure we expected major numbers, but it's interesting to see that pretty small sums in football terms are being described as "too good to turn down".
