1. Where is the best place to get a cheap PAYG mobile in the same design as a Samsung C300 (ie one that slides) but with a camera and mp3 ringtones etc ?

2. Can you unlock phones yourself or do you have to pay someone a fortune to do it for you ?

Have a look on the Asda website as they're usually quite cheap.

Try this site for unlocking. I've just used it to get through a forgotten security code, and to unrestrict another phone:

Cheers for the advice. Am thinking of getting a Samsung J700 and want to use an Asda SIM that I have. If I get a Virgin one they are 40ukp, while the cheapest unlocked one I can find is 70ukp.

I take it that the Virgin one will need unlocking ?

Thanks Si. Might be being a bit of a big girl's blouse, but I am a little nervous about trying this incase I brick the phone.

Just don't type in the *#7733# code that came up a lot on google. That's the one which is breaking the phones from what I've read.

By all accounts it seems you've picked a phone which is hard for even someone with the proper equipment to unlock (again from what I've read).

Only other thing is to check with Virgin mobile. I know a few months back if you'd topped up by a certain amount they'd give you an unlock code for free.

On the subject of mobile phones, I'd just like to say I successfully replaced the broken screen on my N95 today. Go me!

Thanks again for the help Si. Might pop into town tomorrow and purchase said phone and see what happens.
