If the young lad has multiple suitors including ourselves it will be interesting to see where he decides to go. Hopefully our boys can influence him to come here and develop before moving up to the big leagues where the attrition rate is phenomenal.

Absolutely. We are surely a better long term bet than the gas, but you would think he'd be very tempted by a football education at Fulham. That said the liklihood of a career in first team football would be much much less there than us.

It’s probably a situation where the Garner factor could be the deciding factor.
Get a solid foundation from an experienced coach of young players
Or
Choose Bristol Rovers and have a cigarette stubbed out in your eye.
Tough call

Playing devils advocate. If a player was really that good playing for Chippenham U23’s, you’d think he’d have had games in their first team, no?

You’d think so. I didn’t even know Chippenham had an Under 23s? I’d have thought at that level it would just be Under 18s and mens, first team and maybe a reserve team in the district league or something

Could this be a reason as to why we loaned them a couple - to sweeten the deal..

I have heard this as being part reason behind it, get in the good books of the Chippenham owner and manager, at the end of the day it will be down to the player. I heard he was being scouted by us and several other teams a few weeks back while reading the Chippenham forum, yes they do have one! Another player catching our eye and other teams is Chippenham striker Lawal. https://www.ibroxnews.com/2021/11/02/rangers-keen-on-chippenham-town-striker-oluwasegun-lawal/Scouted by us, Rangers and Liverpool as well as several other Premier teams too.

Just watched a couple of Chippenham U23 games. Nothing jumped out as head and shoulders above the rest.

Payne, 27, has a free transfer clause in his contract next month meaning the Robins are vulnerable to losing him. They kept hold of him last summer despite their relegation to League Two.
