Having to pay my holiday balance by phone. Not a problem if it's quick, but I've been on hold for half an hour, moved from 21 to 15 in the queue. Why can't I pay online? May I suggest an independent travel agent next time

How expensive car repairs are. Having to get a new alternator and cambelt in our old runaround. Going to be the best part of £500 I reckon.

That will be the labour, I think when we had ours done the bits were <£100, not helped by the trend being now to change the water pump at the same time.

I'll let you know when I pick it up later!! I think the quote for the cambelt was £355 and the alternator £125.

Car parts have gone through the roof since I sold them, we had a new battery the other week (a week before we sold the car) and that was £80, I remember when they were half that price!

Sounds about right to be honest. Cambelt is a bitch of a job.

Yeah so I believe. The fella said on our model it should really be changed every 12,000 miles but looking through the receipts I can't see any evidence that it has ever been done and its now got 45k on the clock! I thought best to get it done before the whole engine packs in!

I’m not a car expert, but 12k is far too frequent for any car I’ve ever heard of. I presume it’s a typo or the bloke is lying. For most it’s far higher, my last car was 4 (actually might’ve been 6) years or 60k. Ones with timing chains are even higher.
The missus was quoted £500 for her car which was what I paid for my last, but then I used a website where people quote for a job and I got hers done for £290 and they did it outside our house.

I think I've been a fool here. I believe it's actually "every 72,000 or five years; whichever comes first". No idea why I got 12,000 in my head, as you say that would be far too frequent. FWIW the car is nearly 13 years old so it should have been changed twice going by that recommendation by the AA.

On scan reading I read that as Paul Caddis, who would be good, but Si Ferry would be better! Sent from my SM-A125F
