Don’t forget this game is on this evening. Winner gets either Burnley or the 82ers in the quarters.

Notice our club press release has upset the locals with stating Sunderland is on Tyneside

How many of our fans are there and how many in crowd in total do you think? Can’t see from the camera angle. Heard a cheer when we scored. I’ve lost my audio now though.

Think Hart might be in the team for reasons other than who his dad is, to be fair. Some.team, especially considering Kanu has been injured all season and he was the talisman. Should be contracting a fair few of these I think.

Accept that. We went by coach and for whatever reason our driver took a different route and we ended up parked in the middle of the Sunderland coaches. Must admit we were a bit wary afterwards getting back to the coach but the Sunderland fans were (and of course should have been) magnanimous in defeat and the coach next to us even shared their beers with us. Clearly we ended up in the right spot ! As said that was then..  Good luck to the lads in the next round 👍👍

It was but I missed the goal when I went for a Waz🤣

What I remember most about that day was two things. 1) An absolute cockwomble/jizzhankie/xenophobic Leftie cunt (yes they exist) spilling vile diatribe towards that Argie dog shagging Ozzie Ardiles. In all fairness a few of his mates tried unsuccessfully to shut him up on the tube from Rayners Lane to Wembley Park. 2) The underlying feeling that we were going to be punished for the Brown paper bag payments and the extra straw for pitch protection etc, that inevitably saw us made a scape goat for what was widespread financial shenanigans in the world of football before the widespread reach of electronic accountancy and easily traced ‘paper trail’. And so it came to pass we were kicked down the stairs on our way to being a powerhouse in the footballl world. The rest as they say is history.

The academy coaches called this at the start of the season. There's a definite glut of talent in the u18s at the moment, and the goes through to the u14s level. Great achievement for the U18S lot, hopefully a few from that lot go on to have professional careers.

Are they all the same year group?

Are they all U18s or is there a mix of U17s & U16s in there.

Be good to get them some involvement in the first team, dare I say it. If/when we are ruled out of leaving this division from either end and results aren’t important.

Fabulous cup run. Interesting stat that the youth team have won more FA Cup ties this season than the first team have won in the last 12.

It's a little bit exciting that our academy actually looks like it's working, and that's testament to the fine work of Alan Mac. He'll be looking down, proud as punch.

With that said we now have to manage the futures of these guys. Bigger clubs are going to be taking note and looking to get what they can. It will be fascinating to see what professional contracts are offered to these lads.

I was thinking the same re: contracts. I hope Russell et al are giving serious thought to tying our assets down. We did it with Dworzak with a 2 year deal (which admittedly hasn’t quite happened in terms of realising potential yet) which suggests it may be a possibility.

Minturn and Dworzak seem to be the most recent academy guys that have come through. Dworzak needs a loan somewhere and Minturn is attracting interest higher up the food chain. It finally looks like the hard work in the academy is bearing a bit of fruit.

Weird how we all have different memories of the Sunderland fans at Wembley that day, we were shouted at pre game and threatened and after the game they threw bricks and bottles at our coach which luckily bounced off the windows as we had mostly families on the bus we werent even shouting at them it was a random attack on us.

In the stadium we had a young (18ish) Sunderland fan sat with us who paid £50 for a £15 ticket from a tout without realising he was in the middle of the Swindon fans, sat with facepaint on and in full Sunderland kit.

He was actually chatty and welcomed by Town fans warmly and not abused but when the goal went in he had his head in his hands and got up and walked out saving himself from any more embarressment.

As for the kids, bloody great result that, well done them, every one of them, I forgot it was on TBH so may catch up later with it on youtube.

With 30k plus fans for both teams in attendance there are bound to be both positive & negative experiences over a long day. That's with reference to Slumberland, Leicester & Chesterfield fans.

I'm willing to bet that encounters with opposing fans in 2010 will dig up negative memories for the vast majority that were unfortunate enough to have contact.

Not to detract from a really tremendous result last night.
Very tempted to travel to either Bristol or Burnley if circumstances allow.

After being hampered by Covid in 2020, my visit last night was to tick off ground 80 of the 92. Hoping for Burnley which would take it to 81. Being stuck down in this division and having no cup runs of note (regionalisation doesn’t help), opportunities have been few and far between.

We really do seem to have a very good group of young lads this season and it's great to see although as always, the acid test is how many of them make it through to the first team.

I tried to look up all their results for this season and as expected the coverage on the OS is abysmal. All they've got on there is the next three fixtures and nothing else (as far as I can see anyway)...

The results are on there, although it took me a while to find them. They've won 8 and lost 3 in their league this season.

I have to say that the youth team have been a shining light in a disappointing season. The fact that a level 3 academy side is playing in the quarter finals of the FA Youth Cup is quite remarkable  and they have beaten the Youth teams of 2 Premiership sides as well as a Championship team that included a couple of lads who have made first team appearances is noteworthy. The fact is that against Manchester United,  a side that's still unbeaten in Premiership U18 North league, Swindon created more clear chances and had the better opportunities.
Like many commentators on this page I would love to think that they could form the basis of the first team for many years to come.

Most of the Bristol City academy games are at their training centre, I guess because Ashton Gate is shared with the rugby and the pitch can only take so much.

Ah ok. I assumed as all the previous games, Luton (Kenilworth Road), Man U (home at the CG) and Sunderland (SOL) were at the first team stadia.

I checked and their game with Burnley is indeed at the training centre. It would be a bit rubbish for the youths to play there if Bristol City win.

To be fair, Man City have their own Academy Stadium which holds 7000 so no need to use the Etihad. Bristol City's training centre has a capacity of 500 so they may move the game for commercial reasons. Shame if they don't.

Add in the fact it’s local enough that you’ll probably get a few travelling fans. You know 74 year old grandad Roger probably hasn’t got it in him to travel up to Sunderland to watch his grandson play but an hour down the road? That’s do-able for him and Uncle Jack after he finishes work & their mates who have school the next day!

I've sat in the Dolman stand as a Town fan watching us before, in the League Cup when we won 3-0 at home in the first leg.

One of the behind the goals stands gets split right? Possibly the Atyeo, I remember arriving late at Ashton Gate, flashing my ticket at a bored attendant who promptly allowed me entry to the City side with my away ticket... made a quick retreat once I found my row and realised my seat number was on the other side of the wall.

Title: Re: Sunderland vs Swindon young 'uns.
Post by: Jimmy HaveHave on Sunday, February 11, 2024, 12:57:43
The Dolman holds just over 6000 so in theory would be big enough to accommodate both home and away fans but……..there is still a lot of rivalry between the clubs and we haven’t played them at any level for a long time so you could easily see a few idiots from both sides turning up to cause trouble even if it is a under 18 game. Would Bristol City want to open up two stands for a crowd of 4000-5000 (maybe more) remains to be seen as Aud has stated they may be surprised how many from Swindon want to watch the game and 1400 travelled to Reading for a Mickey Mouse game with lots of youngsters on display.

It’s like whatever the EFL trophy is called these days.

No one is really bothered about it at all but interest grows as you get further into the competition.
Same with this. I expect people don’t even know who we played in the rounds previous to Manchester United (I know I don’t)

Plus with our first teams season done & dusted - this at least gives people something to get behind, something that might be successful.

100% this.

Blood him and see how he does, I have seen him play 3 times and very impressed with his pace and movement, for me he looks better than Abodo.
