Reed is contracted for another year, I thought.

Yeah I thought the same and thinking about it they club wouldn't be foolish enough to use Reed in the club's new kit photo shoot and then sell him to Charlton would they? More likely to be Jack Payne I would have thought?

That's what I felt when I read it - Pity for Ward. Think he is a decent keeper, but not gifted with the ball at his feet.

Talking of Middlesborough, Fryer was highly rated and came from them.

Remember this......

Fryer was NEVER highly rated at Boro, they couldnt wait to get rid of him, hence him leaving on a freebie.

'Doonhammers'....that's a proper nickname, love it!

Hopefully, looks like he will be more Benda than Kovar if the signing comes off.

Just out of interest though (to NMH's point above), have we ever signed anyone on loan who wasn't 'highly rated' by their parent Club?
Yes, Joe Fryer Cheesy

Pretty sure nobody stated how good he was before he signed, many stating a couple of poor loans before joinging us, Carlisle fans say he was up with the worst keepers they have ever had.

TBF he was still better than Kovar....but not by much!

I think he was prior to the leg break. Came through from U15s, through academy had a load of games in U23 before a season on loan at Stevenage. Moved up the ladder to Carlisle and badly broke his leg to get away from John Sheridan's management!

In all fairness, I think it was a very bad break and he didn't have confidence in it. We only saw him for 2 games. He had the stature, but couldn't kick and couldn't move quickly. Think that was because of the leg.

So, maybe not 'highly' rated, but released because he couldn't step up (or step quickly in any direction) after injury.

Yes but that just means a fee will need to be paid for him.

Hope he's not going anywhere though, as we were shit without him in the few games he got stupidly suspended for.

The concern for me is if Reed and Williams have relatively easy break clauses in their contracts. Hence why they were happy to sign more than one year. Perhaps buy out clauses in the low 100 thousands?

Ben Woodburn linked on a couple of sources.

22 year old midfielder with 11 caps for Wales released by Liverpool after poor loans at Blackpool, Oxford, Sheff Utd and Hearts.

Reed’s replacement?
No, hes more of a ball carrying attacking midfielder, would be more like Paynes replacement if he went.

He was the next great thing at one stage wasn't he? Would be a hell of a drop for him to roll up here, never say never though, would never have expected us to get Williams.

Klopp thought he was good enough to start for Liverpool’s first team. Think a series of injuries ruined his career for a while.

Much like Payne, can play all accross midfield/attacking midfield/left wing mostly.

Yes he was THE next big thing for a couple of years.

Shit - hope this is wrong from a Charlton fan;

'Rumours that Callum Johnson of Pompey and Louis Reed of Swindon are signing and could be announced today'

wouldn't that cap a Perfect Day
