Man United and Roma should have to play their next 2 games behind closed doors .... but of course are they are both big clubs .. that will never happen! Just the likes of small Dutch and Greek clubs get that kind of punishment

You really are a fucking prick.  Did you even see what happened?  The Roma and Utd fans barely did anything to prompt a reaction from the police like that.

Have you seen the film from SkySportNews where the italian policeman is going crazy...  ...at the Italian police telling them to stop and putting down his baton and talking to the utd fans apologetically.  That for me says it all really.

Neither Roma or Manchester United should be fined, banned or even chastised (sp) it should be the Italian police who have to foot the bill for their extreme over reaction.  I hope on eof the Utd fans has the guts and the money to sue the police.

Do us all a favour fatbury and fuck off!!  You constant drivel is boring beyond belief.

good call Jan... too many fans will say, 'oh, the united fans have been at it again." Fock that. Last night reports of being attacked before the game are widespread, by people who aren't what you'd call trouble makers, while inside the ground the police reacted disgracefully. Granted, United fans should npt have reacted to Roma's when they scored, but the reaction by the police, many hitting fans not even involved, was nothing short of scandalous. Even some of the senior officersa were trying to hold back their own.

Fucking scandal.

Every time a big came is played at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, the police always overreact.

Remember when England did the Italian Job there, to qualify for France '98, the England fans here pelted by missiles, then towards the end of the game, the Italian police just attacked England fans for being there.

What did UEFA/FIFA do?  Absolutely nothing !!!

Italian clubs cause more trouble than anybody else, but they don't get anything done to them ,as there is a big Italian representation in UEFA, and their clubs get a smack on the wrist. Remember a few years ago, when there was trouble in the Champions League tie between the Milan clubs, where Inter were the 'home' side. Due to the fact they conceded 2 quick goals, flares were thrown onto the pitch, with the referee abandoning the game. The penalty was not being banned from European football for a couple of years but they had to play three matches behind closed doors.

I've seen worse provocation at Swindon v Bristol Rovers (2-2) in 1993 than I did last night.  People climbing the fence between the Shrivvie Road and the wedge, it was great.

Not one bit of fighting inside the ground, just people letting their emotions run riot (so to speak) after their team had just scored.

The art of celebration is dying.  Soon we'll all be sat there clapping goals being scored because to stand and cheer would be incitement.

Football is in danger of losing it's appeal if we let the authorities clamp down on this kinda thing.

Lazio are no mugs either, with their racist chanting.

Also, Roma have been in trouble before due to the ref being hit by a missile causing the abandonment of the game.

Punishment....Two games behind closed doors.

Reminded me of Mansfield back in the 80's when STFC fans were batoned by Notts Constabulary who'd got plenty of practice during the miner's strike.  Only difference the STFC fans had offered no provocation other than standing behind the goal.

Because they are English, it was the same in Barcelona last week after the game,  in the metro station. Only one pay counter open so a lot of english we just going through without paying, as we were going down the stairs to the train the old bill came wading in all baton happy. They only stopped after they realised they were surrounded by some of the English getting back off the trains to have a go at them. One lady took a picture on her phone of the events and then took a baton to the head and had her phone taken.

In europe if you English your seen as fair game

It's because you were English is it?

Nothing to do with a mob of fans attempting to jump the train?

So if you'd all politely queued up and bought your tickets like you would have at any other time you think the result would have been the same?

I don't know why some lads seem to think laws don't apply to them when they're in a big group of football fans.

You tried to do something you shouldn't have, and the police moved in to stop you. Tough shit.

Incidentally, if, as it seems from your post, you're so bloody enamoured with the idea of being English, could you learn to write in the sodding language!

Bit different to what happened last night, the Manure fans' only crime is that they're all from Surrey

My observations for what they are worth:

1/ Stupidity on behalf of Man U fans to 'charge' at Roma fans when Roma scored. Given the current climate of hooliganism in Italy and the death of a policeman its little suprise the police were 'up for this one'

2/ Away fans always get treated like shit. Even here in Swindon. Its one of the unwritten laws of football and it applies world wide.

3/ Don't be fooled by Sky Sports News reporting. Yes the scenes were appauling but Sky have a large financial stake in MUFC so you don't get the whole story. Like the bit where hundreds of Man U yob's trying to get at the Roma fans. Is it a coincidence that many of the fans sporting injuries look like nethandral man?

4/ I feel genuine sympathy for the real fans who simply stood in the wrong place and were the victims of the police brutality when they were not even involved in the first place.

5/ I'm disgusted that Sky claimed MU fan's stormed at the home fans only because of ' heavy provocation'. Utter bollocks. Its part and parcel of the game to sing and taunt at rival fans when you score.

6/ The real problem lies within the Italian Police. I hope FIFA and the Italian Police launch a inquest into the trouble but we all know that it will be swept under the carpet. Expect both clubs to escape with a small fine. The police will be cleared because they always are.

thats what i thought as well...the thing is there where no police on Roma's side when they charge so didn't have to worry about being hit but when the english did it the police came straight down and gave them a good hiding...I think if you go abroad to a game like that you've got to expect so degree of trouble whether it be in or out of the stadium
