Na it's not completely useless, it's just more of an accompanying stat rather than one to love and breathe by. You'll often find those with the highest XG and lowest XG against will be up at the top of the league, and vice versa for the other way round, but there will always be those teams who over or under perform on their number. Sometimes can be used as a precursor for teams currently overperforming and due a dip in form, which happened to FGR funnily enough a few seasons ago.

So, all in all, it’s a pretty useless stat that proves the square root of fuck all.
Why do they bother with them?
For the same reason Councils and central government have more staff than a composite commercial enterprise, gives someone something to do who would otherwise spend their days doing nothing.

Question for anyone that went / watched in iThingy: How did KKH play? After a couple a MoM performances he doesnt seem to have been mentioned much yesterday. Was he pushed up (like a lot of us have been asking for); the formation on the BBC site suggests a back 3 with KKH on right of midfield?

Was a back 4, AK RB, KKH RW. I much prefer him at RB as I've said before, looks much more dangerous attacking from deeper but I suppose away at a fancied team it's strong from a defensive point of view, I definitely wouldn't entertain playing him further forward in a home game.

Garner said he was pushed up to stop their left wing back attacking the space

Can anyone, in layman’s terms, tell me what this means
Highest open play xG from @OptaAnalyst (LG2: 2021/22) 👇
3.7 - Swindon 3.7 - Rochdale 3.3 - Salford 3.0 - Mansfield 2.8 - Carlisle 2.7 - Bradford 2.5 - Forest Green 2.5 - Tranmere 2.5 - Scunthorpe 2.5 - Stevenage
I suppose the fact that the 4 teams we’ve played so far are all near the top means we’re maybe not as tight at the back as we might hope to be after all? Certainly relied on an excellent goalkeeping display to help us to victory yesterday.

Tim Cahill was at the game yesterday and posted on instagram video saying it was a big win for STFC.
Wonder if he will get involved at some point?

With Jojo’s superb start to the season am I wrong in thinking he’s only on a 1 year contract? If this is the case let’s get the man tied down.

It’s not 1970 anymore, they’ve had about 60% of their budget cut over the last decade. Do catch up.
