Title: Swindon Town v AFC Wimbledon pre match drivel and matchday thread
Post by: 4D on Monday, April 8, 2024, 09:01:17
We can kind of relax now (as far as on the field goes). The real Dons may have something to play for so will hopefully bring a few.

Swindon 1-2 Dons att: 8,611 (804 away)

We last won back-to-back football matches in November, and have only done two pairs this whole season (Mansfield and Accrington - despite our best efforts in injury time - in November, and Sutton and Walsall in September).

I can't see it happening to be honest.

Big test this. They bullied and bossed us physically at their place.

I'm not sure one physical player is enough. But I was sure we'd lose at Barrow. So what do I know.

Pressure is all on Wimbledon

in some respects I hope the new dons win. Another win will help justify gunning 's appointment at the end of the season.

I think with staying up, it's a done deal.  If James Shan can stick around, I think they will get a tune out of the players.

I never hope we loose - don’t care who the manager is if we’re winning.

In which case why wouldn’t you just appoint Shan and sack Gunning off if Shan is the key? It’s abundantly clear that Gunning adds absolutely nothing other than being a complete liability.

Anyway, pressure is on them for sure.

Its a results business, if Gunning carries on getting results then he will be appointed whether any of us like him or want him. I am no different, if he wins games then I am fine with his appointment however short term.

But if he doesnt get results and we look utterly disjointed in games as we have so often then he must not be appointed manager. Simple.

If we win the rest of our games then hes probably done enough to be considered an option, he wouldnt be my option but he would have deserved it, hes young and still learning. But the game vs Sutton was utterly attrocious in terms of performance, style and tactics, thats hard to forget but 4 wins in a row will soften that a little.

As it stands hes won 4 games, drawn 4 and lost 6 games since being appointed interim manager, thats nowhere near good enough for me with a win rate of just 26%.

If we can win our last 4 (which I cant see) then he will have won 8, drawn 4 and lost 6 which is much better 44% win rate, but it will show that Gunning is learning from his mistakes, of which there have been many.

Personally I do not want another season of Gunning in charge, but if he gets results then who am I to argue.

If (and let’s be fair it’s a big if) we won the last four games then 6 of Gav’s 8 wins would have come since Shan came in to assist him, which would make the decision to not bring in an old head to help out another terrible decision.

For me, I don’t want Gav to be the manager, but the most important change needed (assuming Clem doesn’t sell) is someone who knows how to run a football club. They can then structure the playing side appropriately & appoint a first team coach/manager.

I think Jamie Russell has done a decent enough job so far, the players we did get through the door in January have (for the most part) been pretty decent.

We do need to be run by someone who knows football for sure, been in th egame for a while and knows what is needed.

Not entirely sure how much input Jamie Russell had on our new signings as I heard a lot of them were sourced by Paul Nicholls.

Weird.

As soon as I read the name Paul Nicholls I was like ‘he was on the books at Chelsea as a youth player right? Maybe similar time or a bit after Jody Morris’

I remember him as a midfielder with floppy blonde curtains (a mid 90s staple) so imagine my surprise when I googled him and found out he was a keeper.

Some google trawling later and I was remembering Mark Nicholls who as it happens I think looks a lot like Paul Nicholls the actor !!! Or certainly did on the mid 90s

As you were…

Regardless of who did the work, it was pretty obvious it was not a well thought out plan.  It was very clear that we sent out an SOS and got a bunch of whatever was available, with little thought for how they may all come together as a cohesive squad.   It's what happens when inexperience and incompetence runs rampant in the business.  I am still very dubious that any of the contractual stuff actually puts us in a good position rather than favouring the players.

Hope to see the ‘Town team’ that turned up last week but not holding my breath.
A draw against these would probably be acceptable.
They have more to play for than we have.

A must win game for Wimbledon today & a must run around and put some effort in game for us, if only for the sake of professional pride and for the fans watching.
To be fair end of season games that don't matter haven't been the norm since I first started going.
Don't like them.

We've got away with being doubled only once so far but could be a second time today.
Not going to read too much into that as we have been competitive more often than not & it has been a tight league as far as the flotsam in the also rans category are concerned.

So, 70 goals scored is top 7.
Seven clean sheets is 8 to 10 short of top 3.
74 against is bottom four, over 2 goals per game if not including the shut outs.
Then again even Simon Gibson & Mike Graham might have struggled to keep the attacking waves at bay given the massive strategic failings of this season.

If we get a positive result today then I'll probably start drinking the koolaid that this new coach is mustard and why we're doing better as ordinarily I'd expect to see us get pumped today.

Has Boozy been ineffective as their LB has a bit of pace and can defend or is it cos we haven’t given him the ball?

It's Michael Flynn, avoiding paying his redundancy by rehiring him, Kingy style.

Hilarious that replacing Khan ‘best CDM in the league’ with a more natural CDM has made a massive difference.

Devoy:
- First brace in pro football
- 3 points main thing
- First came in and he tried to get a touch on it and got some luck
- Second was a lot of luck
- First came in playing higher up the pitch. Injuries forced him to play deeper
- Injury: Groin strain in last few weeks. Needed a rest
- L2 games can be frantic and end to end
- Shown great character at the end
- Physical league. Shown we can do the physical thing against Barrow and Wimbledon
- Would have liked a better season
- Jimmy Shan really helped coming in. Very experienced
- Future: Not sure. Have to go back to MK in June. Not sure is t he honest answer.
- Every footballer wants to play every week. Devoy will try to do that, wherever that may be
- Can play anywhere in midfield. Plays where he's asked.
- Likes playing further forward. But does what manager says

Better second half, good that we got to enjoy some goals. Even with the context of this lot still not being good enough, have to take enjoyment where you can, Ofoborh changes the midfield, understandably will take some time to properly get going but hope we have the option on him.

Drinan will be a fine workhorse type player that can chip in with goals, undecided on if he’s up to the level of starting every match but a good option to have. Is McGurk injured?

It would be fair to say that nobody is coming out particularly well from that Twitter exchange, not least Jason who appears to be absolutely milking his five minutes.

Got stroppy and spikey when Flynn was appointed last season rather than him didn’t he? Seem to remember an awful interview after the Barrow match.

He’s done nothing to justify himself being given the job so not sure why he’s got a reason to be stroppy. Although I was wondering if Shan as manager might work maybe with Gunning as assistant.

Those replies to the tweets are attention seeking. Thats all it is

I mean who organise some kind of protest and cancels it as soon as someone speaks to them? Just what is the point

For the first 15/20 mins we were awful, looked like a poor pub team.
Miskicks, poor control, awful passing it looked like we were going to get battered.
To be fair to them they dug in and improved a little in the latter part of the first half.

Second half was like a different team, and despite being under the cosh a lot (partly due to playing against the wind) we played much better.

Wimbledon were a typical league 2 team, big, strong, physical & very niggly and we generally coped very well.

It’s games like this that remind me why I would miss games if I stop going.

Lots of pubs have cameras in the bogs to monitor dodgy goings on. Have a look  above a urinal in one of those big alehouses.  I don't think that they capture images of withered genitals though .

From government website

[/FOI release
Use of CCTV cameras in toilets
Published 16 August 2022
1. Request
I recently completed my CCTV course and I was informed CCTV cameras are not allowed to be used in toilets. Yet on two occasions when I have done events, cameras were in place in male, female, and gender neutral toliets. Could you please clarify the law on this.

2. Response
The SIA holds information that may be of assistance.

The SIA does not regulate the installation or positioning of CCTV cameras but holds information that may be of assistance. There is no specific legislation that references the use of cameras in toilets.

The Information Commissioners Office have produced a blog on what needs to be considered prior to installing CCTV which considers the issue from a privacy and data protection perspective. The Biometrics and Surveillance Camera Commission have produced a Surveillance Camera Code of Practice which operators and users of surveillance cameras are encouraged to adopt voluntarily.

The Knowledge and Skills Specification for Public Space Surveillance published by the SIA is a document which is intended to provide a clear specification on the approach that has been agreed by the SIA and key stakeholders in relation to the core learning and resulting qualifications required by SIA licensing.

Objective 1 of session 2 (‘Legislation’) states that care must be taken that the use of such must be proportionate, limited, specific, adequate, and relevant, in line with regarding Data Protection Act. Objective 6 states that consideration also needs to be given to potential acts of voyeurism.

I have taken an extract from the indicative content below, that goes into this in more detail about this.

2.1 Session 2: Legislation
Aim: To understand the different types of legislation and how they impact on Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) operations.

Objective 1: Identify how the Data Protection Act impacts on to the role of a CCTV Operator.
The meaning of “confidentiality” as it applies to the role of a CCTV operator:

compliance with 6 principles of the Data Protection Act
not disclosing information to any unauthorised persons relating to all operational aspects of the system and data security
no unauthorised recording e.g., using mobile phones or similar devices
no unauthorised copying of footage
body worn cameras
UAVs (drones)
Repercussions of breaches, for example:

dismissed, fines and potential prosecution
Objective 6: Identify how the offence of voyeurism impacts on public space surveillance (CCTV) operations
Safeguarding requirements:

safeguarding children and young people, and others including voyeurism, limits what you can view and record
what considerations to take before viewing CCTV material
voyeurism falls under the Sexual Offences Act 2003

Dragged fellow dropouts to the 2pm protest. Nobody there.
Just read that it was cancelled? I despair.
Went for a drink subsequently and somehow I now feel less bad about giving up my season ticket and staying away. Shambles club and fanbase.

Don't think they'll budge until we're on the precipe, which makes me think there's still a way to go and the current lot are still confident enough, even with us in this position, to capitalist and still ultimately benefit through the club.

Admittedly he was still admiring the ball and didn't reaaaally look like he was going to throw it any time soon, but still...

The problem was the ref had warned him just before.
To be honest that was one of the lesser mistakes the ref made.
Just about every time one of our players got passed there’s they pulled their shirt & the ref let it go most of the time.

starting at 1.45 in the short highlights:
0 seconds - Wimbledon player kicks ball towards dokes (poorly, it goes past him)
5 seconds - wimbledon staffer throws ball to dokes
7 seconds - as dokes turns from catching the ball he's warned to speed it up
10 seconds - ref has already decided he's booking dokes

In the grand scheme of things Dokes probably would have pissed about wasting time. Sadly it is part of the game today and had it been their player we’d have been shouting at the ref to do something. You cannot run with the foxes and hounds. That said, I doubt that ref applies that rule with as much enthusiasm with every player in every game and as a consequence is not applying the rules of the game consistently. Consistency is something that as fans we cry out for week in week out.

Taking the protest out of the equation it comes back to why is Zav Austin the one fronting up to fans?! We repeatedly get told by the band if liars that he’s just a match day guest yet he here he is again being the public face of the club.

They all just treat us like idiots, he’s clearly a pseudo Director and I’d hazard a guess that he’s a pseudo co-owner as well. The authorities are really starting to look into shadow directors so it’s only a matter of time before this gets even messier.

If not Zav then who? That's fundamentally the problem with the stripped down club behind the scenes. While Clem is out of the country. Antony Hall, is not a leader in the slightest and wouldn't even think about. There is nobody else right?

I'm not excusing Zav here. He has a history that disqualifies him, that can't be denied. I have heard one or two positive things from people behind the scenes about him.

The rumour that is hard to shake is that Austin is Standings man, which is why he was there with Power and still is now. Until the club is sold and standing gets his money then Zav will be there.

I don’t know, but what duties and/or obligations does a bona fide director have than somebody who does the same things without the official title of being a director.

Publically, he states he saved STFC
Publically, he has a lot to say about STFC

Where is highly rated professional and CEO Anthony Hall? Isn't this in part, his role as CEO {seeing as the club hasn't really got a COO}...tongue firmly in cheek regarding that useless cunt.

Can Trust Members also ask Trust STFC to revoke Zav's ''Trust Hero'' award? It's frankly embarrassing enough having him anywhere near the club - let alone him being lauded as some kind of protagonist to the ongoing saga that is STFC
