Title: lee trundle on loan coming on monday
Post by: girlposse on Sunday, August 9, 2009, 20:15:51
Heard a rumour today from a very reliable source that Lee Trundle from Bristol City is coming to us on Monday. It will be a loan spell. I know we need a striker but there is lots out there better than him

I have a feeling trundle will do ok. If you ask city fans they would actually tell you he worked hard for them just not what johnson wants. As i said he has scored at this level and his goals return for city is not awful.

I think he'll do alright, although it must be said that we're now going to be unbelievably slow at the front and the back. Although stupidly quick on the wings. Good balance that.

If he did come here got his head down and stopped being a big headed showboating cunt then he would probably win my respect.

Although he and Paynter could do a comedy 'to me, to you' Chuckle Brothers thing to keep us amused.

I thought it was madness when they paid all that money for him (at his age).

Shows what an expensive business it is in the league above (and by that I mean rip off).

we will have to see monday if this is true or not. i cant see us taking on someone who is supposed to be unfit and lazy. surely he wudnt pass a fitness test. did he play any part in shittys pre-season? i can see how this could work because we need someone creative in our team.

Title: Re: lee trundle on loan coming on monday
Post by: jonny72 on Sunday, August 9, 2009, 21:49:00
I don't see how we can lose by taking him on loan until Christmas, especially as Bristol City will cover a good chunk of his wages. Worst case is we lose a few quid, best case is we get a decent striker for a few seasons.

He's exactly the kind of player we could do with upfront, plenty of experience which will help the younger players.

Title: Re: lee trundle on loan coming on monday
Post by: glos_robin on Sunday, August 9, 2009, 22:00:51
Does anyone know exactly how close to match fitness he is. I know he turned up to city for pre-season and was unfit and overweight but did he actually take part in their pre-season.

If he's fit then I think he could be handy but my fear is that he'll come in a couple of stone overweight and we'll have to give him a mini pre season before he is even of any use to us.

Supposedly on 10k a week at the moment so I hope Brizzle cover a good percentage of that.

Worth a punt if he’s fit mind although he’s apparently piled on more than a few pounds over the summer.

That's what I heard.  He was always a bit portly but I'd heard that he had amassed the figure of a couple of stone over the summer although that could be bollocks.

Isn't it the reason Johnson has given for wanting rid of Trundle though so can only assume he is at least a bit overweight

Title: Re: lee trundle on loan coming on monday
Post by: alanmayes on Sunday, August 9, 2009, 22:27:40
Trundle didn't play in any pre-season games,so apart from the fitness aspect, there's the lack of
match sharpness to consider as well.

Title: Re: lee trundle on loan coming on monday
Post by: Dazzza on Sunday, August 9, 2009, 22:28:27
Johnson apparently stuck him in his own "fat club" preseason where any players who came back out of condition had to do extra training.

With any luck he'll be half way to full fitness.

To be fair, if you lose 5-0 in the middle of the season it usually takes a month to recover.

I dont know what happens when you lose 5-0 on the opening day, because Ive never seen it happen before.

Adver reckon that Wilson would be looking to do a permanent deal rather than a loan...not so sure about that. Could be a very good player no doubt, but could also turn out to be a huge elephant in the room if he turns up weighing 20 stone on a 2 year deal.

On one of the League one forums there are a lot of Southampton fans who reckon they are after him as well. May be one target i don't mind missing out on.

Last week we needed strikers, now it looks like we need everything. Lets not panic though and see what happens at MK tomo.

I dont know for some reason I am warming to signing Lee Trundle. Perhaps out of desperation or perhaps he may have something to prove. I still think signing on a long term loan witha  view to a permanent deal would be the best way of dealing with this though.

A lot of city fans rate him, despite him not getting a look in. Swansea fans thought he was God. At 32 he's definitely in the twilight of his career, but he could still do a job in League 1.

And you're not impressed by anything, you morose bastard.

I don't think he was over rated, just an annoying player. He's got an excellent record at this level but for some reason it didn't work out with the shitheads.

I'm surprised more teams weren't queueing for his signature, a £1m at the time wasn't a lot of money.

Title: Re: lee trundle on loan coming on monday

I agree with the sentiments about a loan signing being the safest option, which is why I'm a little worried by Wilson comments in the adver today that he'd like to get him on a permanent deal but he'd probably need to be offered two years. Hopefully i'm wrong as he turns about to be a Dean Windass ageing wise.

Isn't Trundle still shacked up with Liz McClarnon, formerly of Atomic Kitten ?

If so, we could have our own official WAG.

I wouldn't be surprised that we won't officially sign Trundle for a couple of days, as City won't want him cup tied for tomorrow, so the earliest he would be able to play is Saturday.

So where is the pacey young forward - out of Paynter, Peacock & possibly fatboy Trundle.
A strikeforce from those 3 hardly likely to strike fear into any team in this league!
Trundle maybe a good link player on his day, but how long will it take to get him match fit & where is the pace upfront for our wingers to hit ?
I suppose patience until end of August is called for but the whole 3 months to a get 2 strikers in is a fiasco which could derail our season.

Wingers should hit crosses to players in the middle not aim for strikers with pace.  With 2 big men in the middle our wingers should have more to aim at.

I can't understand why people are moaning that we may actaully sign a striker!?

Regardless of recent form, Trundle will score goals in this league. Our creativity for him to score is another issue altogether.

I'd sooner have Trundle up front rather than an in-efffective McNamee playing behind Paynter.

I have carried out some research on this potential transfer today.

Of all the Swindon fans I have spoken to about half said they don't want him here.

Of all the non-Swindon fans I have spoken to, every single one said it would be a cracking signing.

I myself feel he has the stature and ability to do what yer man Mooney did here.

It's the City reject thing. The tag is starting to ache a little bit. We made a big joke about it over Roberts, but since then they just keep on comming.

Once we sign Trundle I am sure our fans will love him.

the case has always been for me .............

He could come here, go straight into the team and get games straight away.

I think there is the worry he will turn out like Thorpe. He could be a revelation by all accounts and this seasons Tommy Mooney, but I hope he's worked hard to get the pies off him.

I can't really comment until I see him play in a Town shirt and nobody else can. It's one of those gambles that may or may not come off. If he is on £10k a week at shitty and it's a straight transfer on a two year deal I think Wilson may be mad. Personally I think this is the loan move with a view to permanent deal that Fitton was talking about.

Will all these people moaning about Trundle being a City player/Scouse/Fat still dislike him if he comes here and bangs 15-20 goals in? Even sends us to the Championship?

No. He would be the new hero.

Get him here now.

Will you still be so chuffed with the signing when the fat cunt can't finish a half and doesn't score in this first 15 games?

No. You'd fucking hate him.

Leave him where it is.

Would we rather take a punt at someone relatively proven at this level on big bucks? or do we sign an unproven 18-24 yr old on half the wages in the hope that it proves a masterstroke?

I cannot believe that we are already hoping that the likes of Trundle will be our Messiah. A striker who has turned into a journeyman already after not doing anything for 2 to 3 seasons and lives on his (not so recent)past. This will indeed be a gamble and I don't mean financially but how long we may have to persevere with what will be a pace less potentially impotent spearhead in attack.
It's to the managements shame (including Mr F) that we are looking at this standard to better ourselves and one can't help but ask why we are resorting to this now after all the time that we've had to resolve this issue post Coxy.
If he plays for us I'll cheer him on and wish him all the best but I won't expect much...............and just a couple of weeks ago I thought I could.  ???

What sort of player should be getting in then, name some names because by this reasoning we should be annoyed unless it's a Championship top half regular with at least a 1 in 3 ratio.

of course he is better than the options we have because we released all our fucking strikers.

is he better than the options we had last season (excluding Cox)....i dunno.

Corr - how much i wanted him to do well, the only thing he was consistant at was being injured
Sturrock - yes, he runs around alot but his goal scoring record was poor at best at this level
Razak - never really had a chance but from what i've heard bit of a loose canon

i'd take trundle above those?

I wasn't sure about Trundle, mainly from a fitness perspective seeing as hes been branded as slow and lazy on many an occasion.

In hindsight, it could potentially be a good move, however I'd rather it was a loan with view of a perm move than anything else.  With Paynter and Trundle though, we need pace so that doesn't rule out opportunities for Macklin either (unless DW signs a pacy striker).

I have a horrible feeling however that we may lose out again, not to Rovers as I don't think City or Johnson would be that stupid, however wouldn't suprise me if someone else came in late for him.

On another note, WBA have enough strikers - even a short term loan until we bridge the gap shouldn't be dismissed.

I didn't realise until just checking that Corr has yet to play a full season yet, at the age of 24, having only started in about 30 odd games in his career.  Now he's managed to earn himself a little rest for a game or two.

McNamee usually has tricks every game. Whether they result in anything is another matter.

But this is the type of thing I wouldn't want, I'd want Trundle to get recognition for the goals he scores and not the fancy tricks he can do.

Whatever anyone may think of him, the club have openly stated that he is their target so they need to go out and get him if Fitton/Wilson & co want to retain any credibility.

I know its taking the piss a bit given our previous financial problems, but they really need to do more to tighten up on club finances. Southampton is a good example of how a club can still get a massive advantage financially with a relatively minor points penalty....

Southampton owed £25m on their ground, but the new owners were able to settle that for about £8m. So they now have a nice new stadium for a fraction of the price it cost to build and which it would cost a financially sound club.

They need to put more controls in place to stop the problems occurring in the first place. Then they need more draconian punishments if a club goes in to administration, automatic relegation would be a good start.

I've read 10k a few times for the trundler and I'd imagine it can't be far off that whack given the fee he was transfered for.  Perhaps 6-8 is more realistic with performance bonuses?

That said City want him off the books with a 2 year contract remaining and without any Championship clubs sniffing at his crack they're going to have to subsidise his wages or pay him off if he's going to drop into League one.

I suppose that's why they're keen to get him out on loan first and see if he can raise his stock a little and attract some interest.

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_5484028,00.html (http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_5484028,00.html)

Quote
Bristol City striker Lee Trundle has revealed that no offers have come his way as yet this summer, and has admitted he would prefer to stay in the Championship if possible.

The former Swansea star is deemed surplus to requirements at Bristol City and has been told he can leave the club should a suitable offer come his way.

Swindon Town manager Danny Wilson revealed at the weekend that he would like to bring the 32-year-old to the County Ground and Trundle has told skysports.com that he will not rule out a switch to the Robins until he has weighed up all his options.

"I would like to stay in the Championship and continue to play at that level, but you can only judge moves on what is presented to you and nothing has been put in front of me yet, so I can't rule anything out until I speak to people," he said.
Heard nothing

"I've not heard anything yet and the same goes for my agent, so at the moment they are just links in the paper and nothing concrete. We'll just sit and wait to see what comes around."

The Liverpool-born striker has been knocked down the pecking order after Danny Haynes and David Clarkson added to the competition for places up front over the summer, so Trundle is now focused on earning a move away from Ashton Gate.

"All footballers want to be playing football and when you aren't involved it isn't a nice feeling," he added.

"I want to be out there on the pitch playing in front of fans, so ideally I'd like to get something sorted out sooner rather than later, but we'll just have to see what happens really.

"All I can do is keep my head down in training and keep working hard to get myself fit and ready for if and when something comes up, because I need to be ready to be thrust into the action as soon as possible when given the chance."

tl;dr version: Wants to stay in the Championship if possible but above else wants first team football. Has not had any offers yet though.

I did wonder if this player rumour was a smokescreen conspiracy to throw the press and other teams off the scent of our true targets. Considering we've missed out on many of our targets then why would Wilson suddenly announce his interest like that?

Maybe to get the fans talking about a name and not the fact we still haven't brought anyone in. That's a proper mind game!

Bear in mind L1 teams have to operate under a wage cap of something like 60% of turnover, so maybe that is why we can't pay a little bit more for Trundle unless Ifil goes as it wouldn't leave much money for other players....

Is Trundle still training with City? I take it he is due to being under contract?

Or is he sitting in the executive box at Swindon eating Balti pies?

I'm confused, apparently I'm....
1.) fat
2.) old and past it with better replacements available
3.) my mate looks like Andy Nicolas!

Hold on, you might be right!  ;D

1.) The shirt was brand new and will stretch in the wash, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!  Anyway, I can lose weight you can't get better looking!
2.) I gather you are talking about Trundle
3.) Yeah, quite a few people say that, and he's not a bad footie player either!

Bristol City:
He turned up too fat for the preseason training and didn't play in any friendlies we will get that in the press and tell the world that we want to lower the wage bill as well.  He is too shit for the first team.

Swindon Town:
We'll offer an appropriate fee for a Div 1 player plus Div 1 wages.

Bristol City:
He's worth more than that, we think very highly of him.  He's a Championship player.

Swindon Town:
Had any other offers?

Bristol City:
Nah, but he would be a great acquisition.

Swindon Town:
We have made an offer, take it or leave it.

Bristol City:
The offer is not acceptable, he is a great player.

Swindon Town:
See ya.

They might have to keep hold of him after that chap they got on loan from Hearts busted his knee on his debut.

I have nothing against Trundle, the Slavetraders couldn't market a groupie at Rolling Stones concert.

Surely Fitton would have offered to meet them half way with a big sell on clause? That's his special move.

What are you on about? Gary Johnson hasn't done anything wrong, ever. It's all part of his masterplan... We're going to get desperate and pay the silly money they want for him, maybe more (and we'll be grateful for the honour of doing business with them!)

...and Wilson is correct.

I reckon they want something like £300,000 for him which would be ridiculous.

I see that Wilson has now gone public on this (see O/S), you would have thought that as City are stuck with having the pay the wages of the loan striker they got that got injured after 5 mins of his debut, they would be keen to get Trundle off the wage bill - even if they still have to pay part of his wages - as it would release funds to sign another striker that they want, surely they can come to an agreement to suit both clubs.

Come the end of the month, if we haven't signed a striker and Trundle hasn't found a new club, I reckon all parties will be desperate to do a deal and they will sort something out. I'm sure the only sticking point at the moment preventing a transfer is Trundle's two year contract on big bucks otherwise he'd be here by now.

If he wanted to sign for us he would have signed by now.

Hes waiting to see if bigger better clubs offering more wages come in for him, if they don't then he may well sign for us.

Hes obviously not eager to sign for us so fuck him.

Title: Re: lee trundle on loan coming on monday
Post by: Simon Pieman on Monday, August 24, 2009, 16:37:05
It's a direct contrast of Simon Cox really. He came here young with a certain confidence (cockiness) about him, wanted regular first team football but knew he was too talented for league one and would eventually leave.

Trundle is a player nearing the end of his career with a certain confidence (cockiness) about him, thinks he's too talented for league one and is clinging on for championship salary. His attitude isn't right for Wilson's team.

But you can't sign someone if their club won't accept the offer you make.

Title: Re: lee trundle on loan coming on monday
Post by: jonny72 on Monday, August 24, 2009, 16:44:47
The thing with Trundle's salary is that he currently has a two year contract on £10k a week (or something like that) - he's not going to walk away from that and come to Swindon on say £5k a week, no one is that stupid. The issue appears to be getting what we will pay him a week plus what they will pay to offload him equal £10k a week.

Trundle could very easily force the issue if he was wanting to come here.So far he's shown
no inclination to do that.Wages would also be a major obstacle i would have thought.
Tread carefully Danny.

To be fair so long as we remain unbeaten (bar the first game) in the league then the coplaining about the striker situation won't be that bad. We are doing alright with 1 up front!

But yeah obviously it needs sorting as our options are very limited.

Maybe it's a case of City trying to hold out for a better deal for Trundle e.g. someone who'll pay more % of his wage. In any event i'd imagine both club and player are going to wait until next week's deadline before deciding what to do. If there's still no more interest in him and Johnson really is that desperate to get him off their books then a deal could be done.
