Today, I've been hearing Dowie's name coming back into the reckoning.
His name cropped up at the outset, but it's been a bit quiet on the Dowie front the last month or however long the sooner rather than later appointment has taken.
I'm liking that one. Fitton said one of the names they were interviewing had not been mentioned. I can't think of anyone remotely feasible who has not been mentioned at all. Dowie has not really been mentioned much though. AF could easily have missed him whilst scanning the forums, leading to him making that statement. Dowie it is then. I'm off to Vic Chandler to get a pony down on that  |

Not saying he will get the job but that he is the blow your socks off candidate that enquired. I have no idea what he has been doing since he last managed, personally I think holloway will get it.
I thought it was established fact now that Joe Kinnear was the 'blow your socks off' candidate. |

JK would blow AF's socks off because he's Newcastle fan....to us he's just an ex scummer, who at least had the good sense to bale out, calling their fans muppets on the way  |

We approached him it was only the WDP that associated it with the blow you socks off comment AF or NW have not stated anywhere that he was definately that person. Fair play to Fitton he is certainly keeping his cards close to his chest, i just hope it is sorted before Saturday we need to draw a line and forget the Malpas era as soon as possible. |

The 'blow you away' dream applicant was Sam Allardyce.
There was some subsequent chat from Fitton about not being sure if it's the right appointment, I guess our man was referring to cost here.

By my reckoning there has been at least 20 blow your socks off candidates that have applied for or been contacted about the job. Whose socks was Fitton talking about when he made that comment? A caterpillar?
It does show just how many decent (or half decent) managers are out there and out of work. Allardyce, Curbishley, Holloway, O'Leary, Graham, Keane, Boothroyd, Dowie etc etc.
