Title: Search Engines
Post by: BrightonRed on Thursday, June 2, 2005, 21:13:20
To be quite honest I have no idea how search engines work, however I thought I would see whether thetownend.com was the most relevant site for a few key words such as 'Swindon town fans forum' etc.
As it happens there was nothing I could search for except "thetownend" that returned this website.

I typed bristol fans forum and immediately http://www.otib.co.uk/ came up.

Considering the future planned expansion of this website and the associatied ambition for more traffic is there any way something can be done to make this site more likely to appear in similar searches? It might lead to more abuse from rival fans but would also surely increase true supporter members.

Yeah, as much as we want new mwmbers there will surely come a point when we are over-run with wierdos.  A waiting list perhaps?

It costs £50 to submit it once and £150 for 12 months after that first month.

I'm not sure where  the idea that we want more members comes from, surely bona fide STFC fans will find there way here.....and if you want opposition fans in  numbers then just use Rivals....which is their reason d'etre.

I'd like some new Swindon Fan members but I guess they do find there way here, with the advert in the player sponsership thing we may get a few more.

The opposing fans that clog up thisisstfc are fucking pricks though.

You need to get the balance right and I think we've got a good balance at the moment. A few more people would be ok though. We need more students, I don't think there's enough of them. We need more people who'll be awake at this time in the morning.

You don't need to pay to get into Google, or to get a better page rank.  Thetownend.com is already in Google.

To get a better page rank you need websites with a good page rank to link to this site and you need similar websites to this one to link to this site.  Links in signatures from thisisstfc will help as that has a good page rank.

I dont mind the idea of getting a few more fans of rival/other clubs on here. As sense of perspective of STFC from outside can be interesting at times.

I find some Bristol city fans arrogance and lack of understanding of what a shithole they live in quite entertaining to be honest.
