Leyton Orient in the cup in 92 was it?  Freezing cold, first half was awful most of the players could hardly stand up.  Kerslake in particular was struggling.

Half time comes along we were stood on the stratton bank during half time, microphone man comes out and says the ref has assured us the game will not be called off.  So we carry on standing there, freezing our nuts off, and low and behold five minutes in to the second half the ref calls it off.

I don't think I have ever been that cold and pissed off at the CG.

Hope it's not called off as driving up after work for this tomorrow.

Disclaimer: Obviously I mean to see Birdy too (in case she reads this).

I was on the Bank that day, I think the reason given was the unsafe state of the terracing rather than the pitch,  You could literally skate along the concrete.  The one and only time I took a flask of hot stuff to a game and about 5 layers of clothes.

According to todays adver we have hired a vertidrain which has been on the pitch since Wednesday and the Groundsman is very confident the game will still go on.  Thank god for that as I am quite looking forward to tomorrows game  Smiley

The radio reported that they hope that stfc don't see any reason the game will not go ahead unless we get lot's more heavy rain overnight

Best calling off-Tranmere floodlight failure,2-1 down won the rematch 3-1.Even more enjoyable for the fact that it really pissed off John Aldridge!

Grimsby a few years ago, Kevin watson screamer we were one up and i think they ahd ten men (IIRC?), then the ref inexplicably devided it had got more frozen than earlier in the match.  Drew the rematch too.

That was a fucking wonderful goal! I seem to remember the ref had to be escorted out by police...?

I can't see Town calling it off unless we really have to.  Forest bringing a few down, MM's first game, first home match of new era, they want a weekend match!

As for RobT and Leyton O in 92, you're probably right about the safety of the fans, but I do recall Dave kerslake struggling to stand up, control the ball, pass the ball and walk or run, due to the pitch.

Tranmere was the best calling off without doubt - although we'd have beaten them that day anyway 2-1 down, we'd just scored, Aldridge was a knob that day.

easy winner 4-0 up against brighton 77 i think ,snow came down and abandoned with 15 mins left, ray mchale had a hattrick wiped out

I remember it as being rain rather than snow, and it not being much worse when abandoned than when started.  We did win the replayed game , Brighton went up that season.

My favourite abandonment was v Bradford City for fog.  Dear Mr Elleray tried to get it finished as we were 3-0 up.  But you could hardly see past the end of your arm.....definitely the thickest fog I've ever seen.  We then ended drawing the replayed game 2-2, when Bradford equalised in about the 7th minute of added on time,  this was of course before boards and announcements.

David Elleray has always been a titan among referees.

I remember the Grimsby game, that was weird.

Also went to the Bolton cup game on the coach, which got as far as Keele services then had to turn around and go back....

And then when it was eventually replayed we got kept in their hole of a ground for 15 minutes in the snow...  Blimey that was depressing.
