Besides, the main argument for the death penalty is that it is a deterrant. How exactly is the death penalty a deterrant to people who are willing to die for their cause?

i think there are some cases where capital punishment is a justified sentence.this being one of them.
hospitals in crisis,gridlocked roads,housing problems,the list is endless.why pay £1000s a year to keep them when decent people are funding them and money could be used elsewhere?
prison is meant as a time for the convicted to pay for their crimes and to rehabilitate to enter society again.people like those will never be sorry or be rehabilitated.the same goes for huntley,sutcliffe ect,ect.

How do you know that people can't be rehabilitated if you don't try? And if they don't respond to any rehabilitation now who says they won't later on?

The Guilford four would be DEAD.

Plus, no doubt, a whole load of other innocent people who were found guilty of serious crimes, only to have their sentences quashed at a later date.

We are supposed to be a civilised society. The death penalty is barbaric and belongs in the past.

if i'm honest though, it probably wouldn't work totally as others would wrongly be given the death penalty as history shows, as our police would just fit people up like they have before.

Agree Jan, Hertha and Sonic, despite the cost letting these people rot in prison is right, they wanted to die and putting them to death lets them win.  There is too many risks of justice miscarriages to put peopel to death - you can always free someone from prison but you can't un-execute them.

i've changed my mind about killing them.i think they should be used for the testing of medicines for the rest of their pathetic lives.at least then they are giving something back for their crimes and it might save a few monkeys and bunnies

i've tried to argue this point on many occasions  but its just turned out into a full scale brawl but i fully agrre on this, not just these but anyone whos doing life, or is on death row should be used for testing rather that poor animals in which results wont even give a 100% accuracy as a dog is not a human being.
