networking

we're getting an ntl package, so i was going to buy this router:

and 3 of these network cards:

for my flatmates to use, will it all work? do i need anything else? will those cards work in desktops as well as laptops?

that will be ok, 802.11g is universal so you can use any manufacter. you shouldn't need anything else either

apparently with ntl the internet comes through the set top box for the tv, so i just sit the router next to that and can walk about the house willy nilly with my wireless networking, yes?

yep.  router connects to modem(set top box in your case) then beams out the signal round the house.

We had ntl cable and a wireless router, they put a modem in and you just connect the router to that and it's all wireless so yeah you can use the internet wherever with a laptop, also worked on my housemates girlfriends laptop too even without an adapter.

We didn't have a set top box though.

indeedy if you set it up right, you can all share music and films also.  i havent worked that out yet though.
