I can't help but think that RW sees his job at Swindon as a project, and wouldn't want to leave before that project is near completion (ie, finishing up towards the top end of Lge 1/Playoffs with a chance of promotion if possible)

I think RW sees the value of success long term, rather then hopping to club to club. It would seem better on his CV to get a club like Swindon from Lge 2 to top end of Lge 1 on a relatively compact budget, rather then leave half way through, go to a club lower down with a larger then most budget, and take them through to lge 1.

Yet, external circumstances could and would have a bearing

Can we safely assume that if RW is nowhere near home park tonight it’s a done deal, unless he is still isolating of course.

Nixon now Tweeting that Salford want to do deal immediately. If right, that suggests they've already spoken with him and that he's up for it.  Hmmm

Salford wouldn’t be talking to STFC about compo if Wellens didn’t want to go there.

They know he wants to go there - that’s why they are trying to sort compensation. They wouldn’t do that on the gamble he *might* consider going there.

I think we can safely assume that he is going to Salford and it's just a question of how much compensation we will get.

I'm surprised anyone really thinks he will stay. It would be nice, yes, and we'd all like to think Wellens sees STFC as a project but, as we've seen so many times in the past, he's going to be tempted by the offer of more money (for himself and playing budget). The fact that it's closer to home for him will seal it. It's a pity but that's life for practically every football club.

If he does stay then I'll happily eat my words......

This.

The only saving grace in this is the fact Hunt is Powers man and not Wellens man, so I don’t think Wellens will take him with him to Salford.

At least leaves a bit of continuity

This feels a bit like when Sturrock went back to Plymouth, a real shame and a bad time for the club but you can understand it on a personal level.

I'd be happy for Hunt to take the reigns, although I'm sure the usual suspects would be furious about the 'cheap option' when the club has next to no income.

Their playing budget is capped just like every other club and I’d imagine Alexander has already maxed it out.

Give us half a million, let him fuck off and start all over (yet) again.

Nixon latest

Salford. Want to agree deal for Richie Wellens immediately. May mean he is pulled out of Swindon game at Plymouth tonight. This has moved fast ...

He was available to travel with the team today (I think it was Hunt said).

I'm greatful he took us up and out of a dark place.
But despite that, I hope he loses every game at Salford. And yes that's childish and I way too old for it. I'm not crying, you are.
