Watching Platoon. Never seen it before.

Conan the Barbarian is on ITV later if anyone's interested.

Just watched Cracks. I thought it was great. It was one of those films where it's about great acting and the changing emotions of the characters and their relationships with each other.

It is a bit arty but I guess what I mostly mean by that is it isn't hollywood (or doesn't feel hollywood anyway). It is accessible and I didn't find it boring.

It's the directorial debut of Jordan Scott, the daughter of Ridley Scott who did Alien, Blade Runner and more recently Robin Hood.

I'm surprised it only has 37% on rotten tomatoes. It's much better than that imo.

Anyone else seen it?

...and another one. Watched Dogging: A Love Story.

Probably the only film about dogging so from that point of view it was interesting but otherwise not a very good film.

I've only got that left to see, the only place I've seen it for sale was in Norway. I've heard it's not very good though, doesn't match up to the bulk of Meadows' work?

Yeah not nearly as good as the bigger titles, but still worth a go for the excellent lead performances, especially Kathy Burke and Rhys Ifans. Its a slightly soppy storyline, good for watching with another half.

I rewatched Cemetery Junction and its not often a film makes me laugh out loud lots, and also cry, but that does it. Proper film-making, proper story, and blinding performances from every single actor and actress in it.

Also Frozen River, a good independent american effort about people smuggling, a family struggling to get by, and tensions between native and non-native americans.

I just watched Tatt av kvinnen (another Norwegian film, sorry). A very simple love story of sorts about a man whose life is run and then ruined by a woman he convinces himself to fall in love with. Genuinely one of the funniest films I've seen.

Sonic, have you seen the Bothersome Man? Very dark comedy, definitely scandanavian and possibly norweigan - saw it a few years ago and it was very good and very weird.

Yeah, the lead actor in both those films is the same guy - Trond Fausa Aurvåg. He's from the same town as my girlfriend. If you liked The Bothersome Man, try and get Tatt av kvinnen - it's quite similar but not nearly as dark.

I watched a Spandish film called King of the Hill (El rey de la montaņa) the other night. A couple of people get lost in some woods and are being hunted by a marksman. That's pretty much all there is to the film's storyline.

I thought it was going well until they switched from the hunted characters perspective to the hunters far too early on. It kind of ruined the suspense and the unknown element.

Watched Napoleon Dynamite last night, after being told to by loads of people. I enjoyed it and did have some good laughs, but I thought it felt quite bleak. It some how reminded me of Albert Camus's The Outsider, only with more comedy and less death.
