Title: Peacock

Might be on his way.

Another high earner off the books. Been surplus to requirements since his injury.

Shame as he is one of the decent ones in football and always gives 100% but I can understand why he is only a squad player, I think it was really Sturrock that done it, moved him into midfield he had a few good games there and Malpas played him there at times but Wilson says that Peacs is a striker and unfortunelty I think at this level now he is not quite good enough.

We really seem to be trimming the deadwood from the squad which is great.

Pubs in Old Town will be gutted first Aljofree potentially going then Peacock that will be a big hit on business.

On a serious note very happy that we are continuing to get rid of the deadwood in the squad and removing players who have not contributed to the team in a long time, losing the large salaries these players were on will be a big boost as well.

What's the source?

Peacock has featured a little bit this season so I'm surprised (if true) in that respect.

Pity if true but not unexpected. Always has been a 100%er for us. Thought he might end up as backroom staff here but probably has more to offer playing at a lower level. Good thing is that with this and possible Caddis inclusion it really shows Towns intent. An additional forward in now would also be good, not sure yet about Pericard though.

As I've said elsewhere, I'd keep him on a contract that reflects his value to the side- if he is, as people speculate, a top earner, then he should go.

When I say Gutted I mean it in the sense that its a shame he is past it now as on his day he was a great player and a great character as well, he seems to love it here. Was great for the fans and younger fans etc as well. Probably a top earner so yeah it is time to go but shame his time at Swindon ended this way really.

Title: Re: Peacock
Post by: tans on Thursday, January 14, 2010, 10:18:08
Was he a great player though?

Yes he played well a few times, and scored a few goals, but i found him distinctly average. As a person, yes he has a great personality and is good for the fans.

Im still struggling to fathom how he won player of the year in the promotion season, when Jerel Ifil had a far better season

Title: Re: Peacock
Post by: Rich Pullen on Thursday, January 14, 2010, 10:27:56
Peacock has done so-so in his four years. He was a fan favourite during the League Two campaign and he has been kind of riding that wave ever since.

I believe his best days were behind him when he signed for us (even though he was only 29).

Title: Re: Peacock
Post by: STFC_Gazza on Thursday, January 14, 2010, 10:32:25
I thought he was very good when we returned to L1, This may or may not be because of the promotion and the confidence from that I'm not sure. Thought he was very good in midfield with Easton. But yes his days were behind him when he got here, I guess there is a bit of sentiment because he actually seemed to care about playing for Swindon. But no room for sentiment now I guess as we are in a promotion race!

When you have players like Douglas and Ferry in the middle of the park you realise how below par previous efforts in recent seasons have been.

That's not Peacock's fault - but he was no more than adequate but he put a lot of effort in which is always appreciated by fans.

given that we've shifted casal and aljofree in the last week, peacock following would make sense.

i don't think anyone would be disappointed to see him leave as league one is not his level anymore, certainly not 'our' level. i imagine he's on a pretty decent wage too.

if he does go, it'd be a shame - he's been a committed to stfc and has genuine affection for the club and the fans

Title: Re: Peacock
Post by: Peter Venkman on Thursday, January 14, 2010, 11:27:41
If Aljofree, Casal and Peacock go then that must release around 250k a year in wages...if not a lot more based upon Casal being on probably 1k a week and Aljofree and Peacock being on 2k per week, which I think is probably a pretty conservative estimate it could well be a lot lot more than that.

Peacock is a nice bloke but he is past his best by a long way now, its sad but we need to move on now and let him explore new pastures and thanks for his efforts in the past.

I feel the same way about this as I did when Migs went. Good servant to the club, likeable guy, but injury prone and now not looking like he'll be troubling the first team. If you're on first team wages, then it's best for both sides if he can move on.

So thanks and good luck.

Needs games to get back to some sort of form.

I think he has a few goals left in him but with Austin and Paynter up front plus the midfield we have at our disposal then it makes it difficult for him and the club at this stage in his career.

Good luck to him.  Has anyone got the Only Fools video outside the Trust Office?

Same.

He's not going to earn another contract here so he needs to be putting himself in the shop window to get a contract in the summer. A loan/transfer away would do him the world of good, especially with the lack of reserve games for him to show scouts what he can do.

Quote
LEE Peacock has denied reports linking him with an imminent move away from the County Ground.

The front man spoke to the Advertiser on his way into training this morning, and admitted that while he would prefer more game time, a switch else where is not in the offing just yet.

Peacock said: "I'm still here, still a Swindon player and nothing has been sorted.

"I'm obviously not playing at the moment so things are up in the air a bit, but I haven't heard anything about a move. It's a rumour - that's all."

Title: Re: Peacock

As Gazza said earlier, its a shame its ended this way for him.

I think he has been a good servant to the club and has been a very good player. He played a huge part in getting us out of L2 at the first time of asking.

He then did a very good (and seemingly forgotton) job in midfield in our first season back. Malpas decided he was a striker again and its all been downhill since. Huge mistake by Malpas and I think we missed Peacock in the middle last season and it wasnt untill OTJ came in that we seemed sorted.

I know it means nothing but he is a really ace bloke with a very infectious personality.

I do however, think his playing days are over - the last injury was one too many and if he hadnt had the back problems he'd probably still do a job for us. He also seemed to give a shit and always gave 100% which not every one does.

I think he'll make a good coach some day - maybe here with Wilson.

When you think of some of the utter, utter, utter fucking rubbish we've had over the last 5 years Peacock is certainly one of the better players we've had.

....and lastly as someone mentioned him, Migz was never injury prone - utter myth.

Think he only missed a few games when Iffy was in charge, seem to remember he played every game once back from injury proper.

The season before that he was out for ages though.

As statto then (think you've done it before) how many appearances each season did he make for us then ?

Title: Re: Peacock
Post by: DiV on Thursday, January 14, 2010, 16:09:47
I'll double check.

I think he played every game in his first season, alot in his 2nd, not alot in his third and a decent amount in his 4th. I think he averaged 37 games a season.

2002/03 - 43(+2)
2003/04 - 37(+2)
2004/05 - 19(+5)
2005/06 - 23(+5)

Total - 122(+14)

That averages out at 30.5(+3.5) per season. 34 games, close ish.

Compare that to a real injury prone player Barry Corr.

12(+22) in his two full seasons here - 6(+12) per season. Not include his 8 game loan spell.

Didn't you bring up the injury prone thing anyway Rodney?

And injury prone means you are prone to injury, which Migs was - he had lots of different injuries, regardless of how many games he played. Obviously the knee was a recurring one.

Title: Re: Peacock
Post by: Arriba on Thursday, January 14, 2010, 16:22:16
if you average his 2 last seasons, his time on the park wasn't great in performances and playing time.i thought his form wasn't all that during that time and him leaving was right for all concerned.

Totally agree ALWAYS had time for the fans. Good Example was Lee P, Monkhouse and Ifil when on the tour in Ibiza and Peacock stood with us for about half hour chatting in the west end of San Antoni about relegation, football etc just having a laugh. And Charlotte can testify to the kind of host he was at the team sponsors dinners.

Like most I've always had time for him, especially after some of his immense efforts in our relegation season under Iffy when he was our most commited player despite a fucked knee.

He's no longer good enough though - partly beacaise we've got better, partly beacuse he's got worse due to injuries. Last few times I've seen him play he's looked serious immobile.

All the best anyway. Wish we'd had a few more players with his attitude over the past few years.

Good luck to him, I hope it works out, I think he may be what they need down there, a young tema struggling once Peacock has had time to impose himself I think he can really help them.

Like to see him back at the CG sometime though so fan;s can say a proper goodbye to him, he has never once complained or wined or moaned at not getting into the team his infectious personality get's everyone going.

A proper fans' player.  Good luck, Lee.  Your picture will continue to adorn the wall of my downstairs toilet (in a completely non-dodgy way).

Always liked Peacock, properly committed player and the midfield move improved him, at least until he got moved forward again. My only concern is with such great moral at the club, will someone with his infectious personality leaving affect the dressing room decorum?

I doubt it will affect decorum, unless you think Lee P is a particularly civilising influence who discouraged unnecessary nakedness, excessively ribald jokes and towel-whipping related pranks. Might affect morale though

Unless the players get changed or train in the physio room or the Gwh i'm sure they wont have seen it much.

A sad day marking the last link to the side, that could boast Cox up front, The Cock and Boob in midfield and Minge at the back.  :bye:
