I'm much more into sea fishing but also do a bit of fair weather lake/canal fishing. I go through stages of not fishing for a couple of years then when I do go I get the bug and want to go as much as possible.

I used to do a lot of coarse fishing, never specifically carp fishing though. In fact my step dad mentioned to me yesterday that he found all of my rods & tackle in his garage so might have to get back into it again (along with all the other sports that I keep telling myself I'm going to get back into).

My step dad and father in law both have boats now so I've done a spot of sea fishing too. Should hopefully be going out again soon.

Mainly fish for Barbel now however has so many parallels with Carp fishing, baits, rigs etc.

On the Barbel front having a poor season.

I have a lake near my house which is full of Carp. Not my favourite type of fishing but will take my oldest lad one evening and get him used to catching a few ten pound plus fish. He catches the small stuff on the pole already.
Catching carp "off the top" free lining, size 8 hook, 8lb or 10lb line straight through using floating dog biscuits attached by a simple pellet band is by far the most exciting way to catch carp. throw a few biscuits out first before casting the rod out. Get them feeding and then try and get the Carp to take your bait.
Caught a 23lbs carp last season 2 feet out behind the reeds doing just this last season. Biggest problem was trying to stop smaller Carp and Golden Orfe taking the bait first. Had to keep lifting the bait out of the water until the "big" one started taking the bait next to my hookbait.

Caught 4 lovely Rudd Friday night on the River Cherwell..........on my own, in middle of the Countyside just the way I like it with no other fisherman in sight.......lovely.

Good luck & Tight lines.

Did a lot of Shore fishing years back in Deal and Sandwich....not very good.

The idea was to catch big fuck off cod to sell to the locals for the restaurants and pubs.....i only ever caught flatfish....Dover Sole now again but mainly Dab.

Some of the pros dragged out some very big cod at times.

Very good Angler and into Barbel fishing like me.

Ask him where have all the Mid-Thames Barbel gone ?
I hold a record of 14 Barbel in one Morning session on the Thames - 2 Nice Doubles in that. (4 seasons back).

Now I struggle to land any .arghh.

Deal was my dad's home town. A great little castle there and in Walmer as well as Dover.
