Calm down dear, it's only Cricket!

Can't make the game today, so it's radio commentary over the net for me.

Still can't believe Fiisch got a Britney cd for Xmas...

Poor lad, it's a cruel world

would it be wrong to say I quite like it?

One of my favourite past-times is bombing down to Swindon, Swindon scarf hanging out the back window, and Britney Spears blaring out....

A very disappointing day. A stunning catch by Thorpe at the end of the day though. Big onus on Harmison to deliver tomorrow.

Not really Youth, while Kallis is there (and he looks in fine fettle) they're just going to keep racking up the runs.

Jacques Kallis is a machine. I can't think of a better knock that I've seen. In the context of the match (and the series) it was a monumental effort. It's gonna take a miracle from here, if ever there was a time for Trescothick to peove that he can bat away from home this is it.

Strauss and Trescothick both have centuries and have set a new record first wicket partnership at that ground. 8)

217-0, not looking quite so bleak now.

Facking brilliant day. Could still go any of three ways depending on a) whether our seemingly brittle middle order get their act together b) whether the pitch continues to play this well or starts to crumble. Got mates coming round at half 7 tomorrow morning, can't remember being on the beers any earlier than that.

Post by: Johno on Tuesday, December 28, 2004, 23:32:49
what time does play start? might get up before lunch in south africa.  :soapy tit wank:

yeh, we ened key players like Butcher, Thorpe, Vaughan, Freddie to perform, get a total of 500+ at least to set a reasonable total, maybe take a gamble and put south africa in bat!

Title: South A V England
Post by: Boeta on Tuesday, December 28, 2004, 23:36:58
7.30 am start.

No gambles, after the position we were in this time yestersay lets get a draw and only go for a win if it's handed to us on a plate. First we just need to bat until tea.

Title: South A V England
Post by: DMR on Wednesday, December 29, 2004, 11:36:39
If we want to win then the middle order are gonna have to start motoring, 400-4 now. Freddies played himself in, a big knock from him this afternoon could give us a sniff of victory.

Shame Strauss can't seem to kick on.

This is definately winable now especially with Flintoff and Thorpe playing pretty well!

I think we may just do this!!

Title: South A V England
Post by: Johno on Wednesday, December 29, 2004, 12:34:51
Flintoff out for 60, Thorpe doing his usual steady self. Jones looks like he wants to get going. England need to start being more positive, flintoff showed signs of it but got out!

Definitely a winable situation, need to have a lead though of at least 300-350?

Title: South A V England
Post by: sonicyouth on Wednesday, December 29, 2004, 13:03:42
I think they'll probably declare at 350 or so in front. Just a feeling I've got, but if Thorpe is still in they might continue.

I don't know much about cricket, I know as much about it as Dave knows about football, but due to the unpredictability of this test so far I think they should just go for the highest score possible...

Depends on the state of the pitch.

It seems to have ironed out quite nicely, because to be fair to the lads, it was an awful batting track on Day One. Pollock- who knows the pitch better than anyone- reckons it gets worse again later- but no evidence of that yet.

I think we'll bat all day and declare overnight, and SA will probably have a go early tomorrow, and if they lose wickets early then they can just sit back and block out a draw, or if they succeed with their all guns blazing tactic, then they'll win.

We won't win IMO, I'm plumping for a draw

well we got a decent start for tomorrow, can't believe Jones dropped Gibbs that would have been brilliant.

Tomorrow its possible to win and i am getting up early to watch all of it!

COME ON ENGLAND!

Superb knock by Flintoff in the second innings, just what we've grown used to this year. The South Africans seem to think he scores as fast as Gilchrist with their unbelievably defensive fields, but in fact he scores little faster than the rest of our top order. Great work by Geraint Jones as well, completely demoralised the South Africans with some awesome hitting.

When Graham Thorpe came to the crease things were very much in the balance but he's given us an excellent chance here. Lets hope our bowlers take full advantage of a mentally and physically exhausted South Africa.

Well, that was a funny old game wasn't it?

I suppose a draw was the right result although I think one of the reasons I've never really taken to cricket is that it's so dependent on outside elements like the weather, and good/bad light.  I know football is as well, but not to the degree that cricket is.

It's a bit gay really.

Bollocks

Consistency is the optimum word here, and thats what the umpires have been throughout the test match

Besides, we really ought to have knocked them down from 180-7

Stunning game, I'd have taken that result after days 1 and 2.

The only Test side in the world to go unbeaten throughout 2004 - top effort.

No I missed the first sessions on day 3 and day 5 whilst asleep, apart from that I missed very little.

Also stayed p on Boxing Day night to watch Aus v Pak - I wasn't impressed by the world's biggest baseball-esque slogger, Abdul Razzaq partaking in a blockathon at 1 in the morning.
