Bob Edwards was an inside forward and moved to Swindon from Chelsea way back in the mid 50’s. Bob was at Swindon from '55 to '59, and became top scorer for the club with a total 64 league goals in 173 appearances. Bob was my Grandad, and sadly passed away last month at the age of 88. I was trying to collect more info from his football days. Does anyone here have (or know people with) memories, memorabilia or knowledge on team mates from his time at the club? A long time ago, I know, but we’d be really grateful for any info. Some more info on Bob: http://www.swindon-town-fc.co.uk/Person.asp?PersonID=EDWARDSR

Paul Plowman is the guy you need to talk to, no idea of how to contact him though.

Sorry to hear that Bob has passed. swindon-town-fc.co.uk has a newspaper archive so you can pull various match reports. http://swindon-town-fc.co.uk/MatchCentre.asp?MatchID=19570133Paul P l o w m a n (who is on Twitter) might be able to help?

Bob was just before my time.... I know he scored 26 goals one season but inexplicably we finished 23rd I do have a copy of the Ipswich Football Star from 55 , when we got stuffed by the Tractor Boys 6-2 who had just installed Alf Ramsey as gaffer, having finished playing at 35. Bob got one of the 2 but there's little in the account of the goal, or pics which mostly seem to be of Sammy Burton replete with flat cap watching balls sail past him.

Paul Reg I have now idea why that keeps coming up as Reg but it is Paul P l o w m a n who is the official STFC archivist (though that may be self-appointed)

Great account, thanks for sharing Presumably you aren't the fabled paul p l o w m a n I've messaged on twitter? No, that’ll be Reg - (P a u l - P l o w m a n) - Smeeton. The resident site know it all, been there, done that, remember when, twice as big, more often, has friend, etc, etc. He’s harmless though. Just don’t ask him a question. If you do Pauld will chirp up on his behalf. PS. Good luck with your search, always sad to hear of the loss of a town player. They all made the club what it is now.

Reg and Paul P are two completely separate people. I & a few others will have definitely met them both.
A certain member on here kept referring to Reg as Paul P annoyingly so. The swear filter or whatever the technical term is obviously autocorrects Plow Man to Reg to avoid such dull ‘banter’
As it has always done with soapy tit wank & r o f l
