So assuming we get another forward and Woolery stays we’ll have DJ, Smith, Payne, Woolery, Hope plus 1 more as the forward players. Numbers wise that will be good, just hope the 1 more is in the Doyle mould and does all his work in the box.
I think you have to read between the lines with what Wellens has said in ToTT interviews.
DJ - We had last year
Payne - Anderson replacement
Woolery - If he stays was here last year
J Smith - Isgrove replacement
TBC - Yates repacement
TBC - Doyle replacement
T Smith - Quoted as Muskwe replacement by Wellens (may be tongue in cheek or demanding)
Hope - Here last year
Now on the face of it the muskwe thing is a bit of a joke. But consider also that last season we tended to play 4 of these. Normally Yates, DJ, Woolery supporting Doyle. So you need 8, 2 for each position.
So you probably need 2 more still. And those two need to have experience and at least one preferably a proven goalscorer (Norwood etc).
I suspect Hope could leave as well. Wellens only said nobody was going anywhere while we are so short. If he gets those couple in i think the Hope thing could happen. The eighth then may be Twine, though Wellens has (rightly) walked back how good he is after the last couple of friendlies.
So i think its 2 Strikers now and a back up keeper, plus Donohue when it happens. He clearly wants another midfielder, suggesting someone box to box, or the Ireland deal. So i think 4-5 more to come in.
