Mahoney beats FBT given both of them were directly responsible for the result for me.  FBT wasn't as assured as he can be defending, when FGR had the game in their control, but his winner was some strike.  Mahoney keeps us in that game though - without him, none of the second half is possible.  He reminds me a bit of Given.

I gave it to Hutton but lots of players with good performances none flawless. We got the better end of the reffing performance today by a long way.

Brewitt again for me

Young for me, thought he looked very good, got in good spaces and worked hard.

Aye Young worked as hard as a Wakeling performance but he's a stronger player. He's gonna be handy.

I can't get past Dokes even though he made that mistake first half, although it didn't look like he got a shout that a player was pressing him.

If Hutton and Austin could just be on the same wavelength again, they'd be a frightening attacking threat.

Brewitt for me,surely allaying the fears many had about him starting.
Closely followed by Hutton,Young and Mahoney

A lot of average performances but no standout ones.

Keeper made some good sales. Genesini was a threat. He still wasn’t great but showed decent promise. A run of games in the XI and hopefully he’ll improve.

Young worked hard but never felt like a threat. Kemp anonymous but poped up in the right place the right time to score.

Brewitt solid at the back

Sort of average by being a combination of very good and very bad, rather than you know, average. So averaging out as average. If that makes the slightest bit of sense.

…also I’d love the refs to have a go pro or something because I’d be very interested to see how that Kinsella tackle looked from whatever angle the ref had.

Young for me.  Work rate was good FBT Brewitt & Dokes all get shouts too.  

I went for Brewitt. He marshalled a defence under pressure and made a few good headers and clearances (including after UGM cock up early on). Really don’t get the hate for him. Not sure where the idea of him as a limited defender comes from, possibly some snobbery from some that he was a free agent when we signed him? He did have one misplaced pass forwards which led to a dangerous break from FGR but I suppose in league 2 that’s not bad for many CBs at that level. He seems good in the air and willing to stick his head in too.

FBT - Lucky to stay on the pitch. Solid defending. Had to take the yellow. Phenomenal strike
Brewitt - Superb all game. Made a number of superb challenges. Only saw one mistake. My MotM
Genesini - One moment of quality changed the game. Amazing he curled 3 into the same part of the stands!
UGM - Speedy running forwards. Didn't actually think his yellow was a yellow as he didnt touch Kadji when he jumped up.
Kinsella - Lucky to stay on the pitch
Kemp - One header
McEachran - Was he playing?
Austin - Better but wasteful today
Young -  Tried hard

Went FBT slightly over Brewitt for his goal and a couple of marauding runs forward.

Young I thought showed a lot tonight until he got tired. Lots of potential there.

Mahoney continues to pull off some fantastic saves, but really pleased to see my MOTM Brewitt coming good this season. He was the rock in our defence today. We need another proper CDM though - we looked fragile without Khan. And what’s happened to Clayton?

Shoutout to Mahoney coming to collect a couple of crosses too.

Clayton is hamstring injury I believe, something like 6-12 week timeframe (roughly) given when injury occurred (?swansea away?) so likely still a few weeks away.

Brewitt for me, although shoutouts to Young and Genesini. Cracking goal from FBT but felt he wasn't quite at his best, whereas Brewitt defended brilliantly. One misplaced pass but other than that he was outstanding. Great to see his passion at the end. Fuck the haters, he was great.

Was going to be Brewitt over Mahoney.

But I'm a sucker for a late winner (when it's in our favour  :doh:), so I reverted harshly to last season's staple for MOM:  FBT.

Genesini was close, Brewitt and Mahoney played well too but for me scoring the winner edges it for FBT.

On another day Austin scores a hattrick.

It's quite strange that our defensive players are really standing out at the moment. Brewitt - occasional ropey passing aside - is currently a monster CB, heading, intercepting, clearing everything thrown at him. He has really grown into the position so far. My personal vote, second game running went to FBT. Great at the back and once again the pivot between defence and attack bringing the ball out and using it intelligently.

After the sending off our right hand side of UGM and Hutton was causing havoc and on another day, Charlie gets a hat trick. Kemp and Young also did well. I've still got concerns about a lack of physicality in the middle of the park and how the defence might cope about a more direct, physical team as well as the thin nature of the squad, but Flynn has 2 weeks to address this.

If FBT could hold off getting suspended until Clayton is back, that would be great.

Definitely nice to be on the other end of it for once.

Still think we need to try Clayton at DCM at some point.

And Cain as and when playing should be in a more attacking position.

Certainly don't want to move him now whilst he is looking so improved but if we get a Ryan Inniss (his forehead and neck must hurt like hell today having made about 3,500 headers last night) type in at the back, could Brewitt step into that DM role?

I just wrote in the other thread that I think Kinsella literally has to be used as a DM only based on feedback from Walsall fans. (clearly his tackling needs work based on last night) It's a small sample size but he hasn't impressed. Totally agree that Cain needs to be higher up the pitch. His passing ability is much better.


Inniss was excellent last night wasn't he? One of those defenders that the ball just seems to be like a magnet to him when crossed in. I suspect Edwards would be a similar type of player - if he's still available?

Mahoney kept us in it first half but thought Brewitt overall played very well so opted for him.

Is Malife too good to play as a CB? With the number of crosses we get into the box do we need more of a presence up top?

Can’t see Austin managing 3 games in a week.

Austin got an assist for both our goals yesterday.

His time will come again, his chest & volley was bang on but stopped by an in form keeper.

I'm glad he's in the team and getting thru 90 mins. can only be a good thing, he's certainly fitter than las year.

Young for me, his hard work and physicality gave us options from defence which were both dangerous going forward and as a means to relieve pressure. Reminded me a little of when we had Paul Mullin here.

Brewitt, FBT, Hutton, Genesini, Austin all good. Kinsella was the weakest link imo.
