To you maybe. To me (and others) it's quite a good thing it's a bygone era.
Why is it a good thing?

All things must pass. I liked Bruce's work in the 50's, which was more a Sunday night thing rather than the Saturday night niche which he cornered... however don't suppose I ever saw more than the odd show after that. Nevertheless, like for me in the 50's he brought fun into people's lives, which has to be good thing.. there are probably simple pleasures which bring some fun into your life Ells.

Because I cringe every time I see him on TV (I'm 26) as did my best mate's sister I was talking about it with (she's 46) and as did my dad (he's 70).

I cringe when I see stuff on tv, I think we all do. What irks me is this is part of mine and many others life that you feel the need to trash publicly rather than keep your own council. Imagine me or anyone else denigrating things that and your kids hold dear. Like an eccentric relative, you'd be fucking livid and rightly so. I look at things my parents held dear to them and their generation, when I was young I couldn't see the connection and fascination. Then I grew up and became an adult and parent. One day you may grow up too.

Quite so. I was flicking channels the other day and came across 'Celebrity' Big Brother. There was a man and woman on there (no idea who they were) trying to have a conversation. They could barely string 2 words together - It was like watching a couple of wino's in the park - truly cringeworthy. Brucy was your archetypal 'all round entertainer' who made his name in the 60's and 70's. He may not have been everyone's cup of tea but was supremely good at what he did. I think it's also important to remember that in later years his routine became quite tongue in cheek and almost self-mocking. I certainly never found him cringeworthy but each to their own.

Earl Grey is one of those things I've never really got... tried it often enough along with a range of other teas, but somehow always end up back with PG Tips. Think it's being working class.

I genuinely don't understand what you mean at all. It's my personal opinion that Forsythe was an embarrassment but if he meant something to you that's lovely.

I think I'm roughly of the same vintage as you, maybe 5 years younger at the outside. Think you need to understand that what's emotionally important to you might not be to a different generation. And then stop trying to pick fights with people that don't wholly share your particular perspective of the world. Bruce Forsyth was a pretty good entertainer in, and of, his time. But he wasn't everyone's cup of tea. I'm not trying to destroy your childhood by saying that.

I understand someone might not be of an era to understand someone dying and how some people may take it, but just stfu and not bother putting anything down.
