Just been down to work to collect my van for afternoon collections at 4pm.

Was chatting to the lorry driver from Oxford and he told me about Alan Leighton's latest idea to reduce costs.

From next month, all new Royal Mail vans and lorries will no longer have the traditional yellow stripes down the side

Abit silly really.

Only reason i can think of is after we've finished with each van after 3 years we auction them off. I'd imagine getting the Royal Mail livery off to be expensive?

Losing the tradition though  :|

Fuck that, they should bring in Hulkamania yellow and red colours to the royal mail vans that blast out sounds of the Hulkster every morning as you deliver the post.  It'd be like postmen are the new ice cream men!!

That's why newer police cars are silver... higher sale price when they're finished with.

No the new cost cutting plan is to shut down Mail Centres and people losing their jobs, dont you lot get told anything?.

Reading for instance might close as it was built on the Railway company's land and they want it back.

With business acumen and cost savings like this I reckon the man from royal mail could do a job at STFC

http://www.bized.ac.uk/images/royalmail2.jpg

as with any decals on the side of a vehicle, they leave a mark when you take em off.

BUT

royal mail dont own any of the new vehicles, we lease them from a company based in Swindon (the whole of royal mail, not just swindon)

also, on an interesting note, any royal mail vehicles based in swindon that are involved in accidents get brought back to the Dorcan mail centre and left in the yard, its a bit weird seeing a properly fucked up transit van caked in mud, near enough folded in half...
