They still come from his shots, Johno... didn't say there not his shots, but can't get them in without someone deflecting them away from the goal. i still think he's a good player of course!

Lampard is better at what he does, probably the best in the world at what he does - which is getting into good positions and either playing the ball on or belting it toward the goal. I think he frees up alot of space for the strikers as well.
On the other hand I think Gerrard is more gifted in terms of skill, passing ability and vision. I think he has more of a footballing brain than Lampard (who seems more instinctive). He's also good leader.
On balance I've gone for Gerrard.

Lampard will always score goals but his passing and creativity is sometimes his weak link. Gerrard is better because he scores goals and does both of those things well (when he isnt in an England shirt that is)

After maybe Alonso Lampard is probably the best passer in the premiership, better than Gerrard. His long passes are incredibly accurate and he has more assists than Gerrard as well as more goals. His main strength though is he never gets tired, there are no players in the world who can match Lampard's workrate and that's why he's the better of the two.

But Lampard has got Makele doing the majority of the dirty work for him which enables him to get into goalscoring/creating positions, whilst Gerrard has to carry the entire Liverpool side.

Liverpool have some great players Carragher, Alonso, Garcia, Crouchy. Gerrard doesn't have to carry them on his own any more, they are a good side. It's true that Makalele helps but Makalele was out for several games and Lampard was still class but when Lampard couldn't play last week Chelsea looked a much poorer side.

They were made to look poor by a battling Man City side, Lampard wouldnt have made a bit of difference.

Can't agree with you there, there is a reason why he has the longest run in a premiership side, not only is he incredibly consistent but you can't afford to drop him ever, he starts every game because he is Chelsea's most important player. They aren't the same side without him. They can cope without Terry and Makalele though they are very important but not without Lampard.
