STUDY WHEEL CLAMPING
One of Britain's largest exam boards has introduced a vocational qualification in wheel clamping.
Edexcel says the course will soon be compulsory for anyone "seeking a career in vehicle immoblisation".
Level 2 BTEC Award in Vehicle Immobilisation requires trainees to undergo 30 hours of "guided learning" for £500.
Half of the course is devoted to the techniques of wheel clamping and its associated paperwork.
And the other half focuses on "communications and conflict management" including the "use of empathy to recognise the customer's view of the situation".
Learners are also given opportunities to "develop an understanding of spiritual, moral, ethical, social and cultural issues and an awareness of environmental issues, health and safety considerations, and European developments".
Trainees study the "history of vehicle immobilisation" and "identifying why clamping is used".
An Edexcel spokesman said: "The course is available at many colleges around the country now.
"It has proved to be a great success with companies in the industry, who are sending staff on the course to improve their skills."
