From those I know that have done it and are advising me on the trip I'm planning about £1000 per person per month is about right depending on where you're headed. That's about right for a single person - but group or couple travel reduces this a lot. This is because of accomodation and food. Often it is as cheap to stay or eat as a couple as it would be for a single person. I'd say you could do it on £750 per month as a singleton, but you'd be cutting corners. About £1250 per couple per month is about right. I think this is one of those things that everyone under-estimates - thinking "I can get by on £400 per month when travelling" which is fine in someplaces like India/Thailand where cheap food and Accom. is possible, but if you factor in USA, then your budget is blown. USA I'm thinking will be about 3 times the price of Asia for food and accom...if not more...

For those really interested I'll be posting my itinery and approx budgeting information as I think it'd be helpful to others planning the same thing.
As said I'm leaving in January, so it should all be booked before Christmas, so I'll post it around then.
I'm also having a website to keep in touch with people in England while travelling, so information will be on there when it's up and running.

I have the budgeting skills of Ricky Hunt though

I'm budgeting for about 1k a month on my travels hopefully including a rental income after Mortgage of about £100 a week.
12 months is my target as well
Planning to do the old TEFL course to bring home the bacon on the way, few people I have met have been bumming around on the back of it for 2years+
You can easily do it on a hell of a lot less mind without resorting to being a travelling bum. Thailand for example, you’ll find the premium bungalows cost ridiculous amounts while just up the road on the slightly quieter beach you can get a slightly more basic version for pennies.
I wasted my Australian WHM visa mind. Kicked off in Sydney and spent the first part going on the lash and spending far to much then further up the East coast the less jobs there are available.
What ever you do though don’t pick Strawberries or any other kind of fruit or work in any sort of job that involves telephones. Both will ensure you feel more abused after a days work than a Barrymore/Kelly sandwitch.

See we've been advised not to use the cheaper bungalows on the beach as they are beach-bum cottages
Used in the same way as some commons and toilet cubicles - were there any holes in the wall in yours?

OJ, If you need any country info let me know as I have loads of things at work i can send to you about all the countries you've mentioned.
I woiuld definitely include cambodia - you can go to angkor wat, phnom penh and siem riep - all amazing and I would also say to peru/chile as you have the inca trail.
I am going to reykjavik in march, its not cheap but well worth a visit.

Pretty sure you don't need to do that if you've got a degree, Daz. Met a load of people doing that, seemed they had it quite easy.

Handy to have all the same Spacey, unfortunately it's just shy of a grand for the official qualification.

Yes and possibly Fortean Times, a little crass in parts but full of in-depth articles on institutes like the above museum.
