This might sound patronising, but as you grow older your priorities change.

NMH

dam right.

i do my best to travel to football when/where i can but now living in brum, having one car between 2 and also paying bills/loans etc takes it's toll so other prorities come into it. Especially now i'm about to buy a new house etc.
I've said before if i lived back where i was from i would be there week in week out (cos i would get a lift with Ralphy)

i don't go cos of who is in charge etc or how the club is run i go cos it's the football club i have supported through thick and thin (i was there in 1990) and will continue to do so no matter what. The fact we now have an inept manager in charge still wont stop me.

Keep the red flag flying high......................

like I said mate, those with extenuating circumstances such as work, expenses and personal reasons are fine by me, it's the people who have the choice to go but hide behind pathetic reasons like "I don't like King" or "the tickets are too expensive" when really they just can't be arsed. It's when these same people turn round and moan at the team/performance/manager/board but can't be bothered to show up and support the team that bothers me.

I think the vast majority of people on these forums go to games, if they don't they just post in the non-footy sections.[/quote]

I have to be honest, when I first read your original post on this thread,  I thought you twat....but the comment I have highlighted means I nonloger think that. I go to games when I can, I don't stay away for the sake of it.

I can't afford to go to every game, I wish I could.Until 97 I was a die hard fan, started going in 85 and from 90 - 94 missed only a handful of games, home and away.

Since then i have travelled the world, met a wonderful woman and bought a house in the country and settled down. I'm 30 years old and to be honest getting to the county ground is not a high priority, its more pressing that I make sure the mortgage etc is paid. When I can afford it, I go. I get to about one game a month.

That is why, like you say, when debate on this forum comes up about the team etc I just read with interest. not seeing every game means I feel I cannot have a valid input to the discussions. But your first post which practically told people like me to fuck off was a bit harsh I thought.

I've supported STFC since I was 10 years old, that will never change. I may not get to as many games as I used to but I still care enormously for the football club that got me interested in football at the very beginning. That also means I can have a voice on a forum like this, but as I said, I don't jump on the king out, he should play here, he should be dropped etc threads as I have no first hand knowledge expect for the odd game I manage to get to, this doesn't make me any less of a  fan though. ffs, I fucked up my a-levels by going to the second leg of the tranmere play off rather than going to college, that is some sort of commitment!

Anyway, I'm a bit pissed having just got home from watching the cricket and just felt I had to post this. I love STFC, and the fact I can't get to every game makes no difference to my support, or the validity of my viewpoint on our current situation.

I don't mind being called a twat at all Cool

I understand that people's priorities change when they get older and whilst it seems far away for me, I'll be the same one day. My Dad has been a hardcore Town fan since the 60's and as I was growing up he couldn't go to football every week, especially once my Mum stopped working from home. I completely realise that some people simply can't watch Swindon every week because of finances, personal issues or simply because they're too busy. I'm just moaning about the people who complain about everything under the sun but don't go to the games because they don't like King or think tickets are a little too expensive.

For the record, I didn't mean to insinuate that just because you don't follow the team home and away you're not a real fan!! That goes for everyone.

I work shifts, have 2 kids, a wife and a mortgage. If I am not working and there is a game I'm there. The boys who I used to go with mostly live too far away to get to games, so I go on my own, its not as much fun but better than not going. The wife accepts that its important to me, and its never been a problem. Until this weekend.

Throughout the match on Saturday I could feel my frustration rising, and when Southend scored their second I left, I've never done that before. When I got home I realised that I hadn't enjoyed myself at all, and that I had sacrificed a rare Saturday with my family to sit through that rubbish.

I've got the Saturday of the Bradford game off, but right at this moment I don't know if I'll go to the game. The wife says not to be so stupid, but I'm really questioning whether its worth the time or money.

Can anyone offer me a good reason to attend?

Before the start of the season I was hoping to catch a game or two but I gave up looking for a summer job (long story) so I literally have fuck all cash and asking parents to pay my rent for my house at uni until my loan comes through  :?
In all honesty though, it got to August and I could have afforded to go to a game, hey even Whits and Yeovil were offering to pay for me (kindly) but I couldn't be arsed. I haven't exactly been to a lot of games in the last 4 years or so but I have tried to go to as many as possible. This season has been exception - I couldn't really give a toss. It's a bit of a worry but I've almost lost interest in football all together  Oops

I think there is a difference between a "stayaway" and a "doesn't come".

A stayaway is making a decision to avoid the club, I think they are few and far between and their excuses usually don't stack up as they don't return.

A Doesn't Come is someone who just has lost that passion that made them run over hot coals to get to the ground before.  Any number of reasons probably cause this, but they can be enticed back - by success, ticket prices, a general feeling that it's exciting at the game etc.  These are the people who drift in and out and why our attendances fluctuate (and include me for 2-3 seasons now).  I come and go, the odd game here and there, and avoid discussions on matchday performances because of it (I can only comment specifically on what I see, and more generally on what I hear).  These people should never be criticised for not coming, because without them the club will die - you don't normally get more customers as a business by having a go at those who buy your goods a little less frequently.

I feel the need to stick up for Sonic here. He's criticising those who make comments about games that they have not been to. Everyone has a right to an opinion but the "ive supported the club for this long blah blah" doesn't wash. There seems to be a lot of fans on the forums that don't seem to go to ANY games but for some reason have the strongest opinions. I don't think their views count anymore regardless of what their support used to be like. If you only go to a handful of games a season that entitles you to an opinion because you've seen the crap first hand, I think it's those that don't go at all that Sonic is getting at. If you don't go to any games you're opinion is the worth the same as a Man U shirters from Kent!

I hate stayaway fans, and I don't see how they can call themselves supporters. Just when the club needs supporting the most, they fuck off. Mmm...helpful!
