This might sound patronising, but as you grow older your priorities change.

I havn't been to a game for ages. Only reason is though I'm either in Exeter and can't justify the £50 it will cost me for train and match yet alone money I'd need for going out drinking etc. or I'm in Swindon and I've already spent all my money at uni. At the moment it's becasue I'm working so I've been sleeping during the day on saturdays.

I will try and make a saturday game before I go back to uni but I have found that the longer you don't go to a game the more you forget why you used to go so much before. Especially when it sounds like things are pretty shit.  I still sometimes miss it but especially when funds are pretty low it can be pretty difficult to remember why.

As I'm a stayaway I rarely post anything football related. I no longer have the right to air my opnions on this part of the forum, it's the least interesting bit anyway.

I agree with that, personally at the moment ive just bought a new house so am having to pay bills left right and centre, hence why footballs near enough my only expense at the moment, not even out on the beer with teh lads after a game!

Agree with that totally NMH.  I have found myself slowly over the last few years finding football dropping drastically in importance.  It really has now come to the stage where as i no longer enjoy i am think why bother.

We all go to football out of a sense of loyalty these days rather than particularly enjoying it, at least that is how it feels to me at least.  And to be fair thats fucking stupid, i can think of much better things to spend my hard earned money on, and also do things that i enjoy a damn site more at the moment.

Priorities do change as you get older.  I have a mortgage, a Mrs, a good job, my own work, family.  All of these are worth much more than football.  What do i do?  Do i go and watch a game of football, not enjoy it and go home depressed or do i stay home in my nice house, spend the money on something nice for the house or a nice meal, or go shopping.  At the moment I think i know what i am going to choose.

I have been a loyal supporter/ season ticket holder (until this season) for over 10 years since i had my own money so it pains me to say this but i really am seriously considering whether to continue with it all. Sad

you can tell the stay away fans to fuck off all you want, but sadly we need them, we need the money and a bit of success would bring them all back...look at the Brighton home leg 14k...where are they now?

The fact that you call them fans is right though.Theres a difference between fans and supporters.Supporters are the people that get to as many games as poss and show their support, whether or not they are 'king in' or 'king out'.

When the going gets tough, the though whinge a bit and go shopping with the misses instead.

Really, most of the whinging is that king is boss, I can understand that, but the fans have been using one excuse after another for not going to a game since McMahon left. The only sure fire way to get fans in is to do well and gain promotion. The only sure fire way to do that is to have ££££££££

I'm sorry Titch, you've always seemed like a decent fella on here BUT "buying something nice for the house" over fooball? WTF???

I know we are shit and all is not well at STFC but frankly I'd rather go and watch Oxford then spend my saturdays buying coffee tables in fucking Ikea with the Mrs.

I think it is more frustration than anything else.  Of course i would prefer to watch football than go shopping, maybe i am just venting!  But at the end of the day if you go football and you dont enjoy it, whats the point?  At least if you buy something nice for the house it makes your Mrs Happy, and you  Wink  Cheesy

dam right.

i do my best to travel to football when/where i can but now living in brum, having one car between 2 and also paying bills/loans etc takes it's toll so other prorities come into it. Especially now i'm about to buy a new house etc.
I've said before if i lived back where i was from i would be there week in week out (cos i would get a lift with Ralphy)

i don't go cos of who is in charge etc or how the club is run i go cos it's the football club i have supported through thick and thin (i was there in 1990) and will continue to do so no matter what. The fact we now have an inept manager in charge still wont stop me.

Keep the red flag flying high......................

I noticed on the Rivals boards that Reg has been making some very good points about people who don't come to the games for a variety of reasons possibly damaging the club etc.

Anyway, it struck me just how many people on the various STFC forums are always moaning yet refuse to come to the games. If you can't afford it or you have to make a long journey every week, then I can understand - even if it doesn't stop loads of others - but what's the point?

Frankly, I've got zero time and no respect whatsoever for people who refuse to support the club both financially and from the stands simply because they don't like our manager, our board, the ticket prices, the hotdogs in the Arkells stand, whatever. Whilst everyone has got a right to say what they think on the forums, their opinions hold very little weight with me.

What disturbs me even more is fans of 30-40 years who are giving up hope, why?

Just a rant. Stayaway fans can fuck off.

This is why I don't take alot of notice of whats written on the forums. Most of the fuckers don't even go to games and that includes this forum. Just take no notice they're just sad bastards with nothing better to do but moan on an internet message board. Sad as fuck. They do not represent the majority in any way.

Feel free to slate me, as I'm sure many of you will, but I'm with NMH and Titch etc.. on this one. The older I get, the more important other things become.

Be it the current boardroom, manager or whatever, STFC now comes pretty low on my list of life's priorities. Sad but true I'm afraid.

As I said, feel free..
