Possession is the most over used stat in football
It’s utterly pointless.

This

We must have been pushing 70% most games under Luke Williams. A team like Burnley probably haven’t had over 50% once under Dyche

Yes those around us can probably say the same.

I think it's a bit of a paradox. It's true that we need to win a certain number of points but, at the same time, we only have to do better than those around us.
This,  for fucks sake, you'd think we lost yesterday. No need for the negativity, let's just enjoy yesterday's result and look forward to another 3 points on Tuesday. (Cough, Cough).

I think XG is very useful over a 10 game minimum sample but showing it for 1 single game is pointless

I can read.  I can see what's happening in matches.  But I thought the following stats may be of interest:

They are EFL 1 season-projected stats based on Wellens v Sheridan's squad v Sheridan overall:

                           P      Pts      GF     GA     GD
Wellens  only 9     46     46     66     92    -26
Sheridan last 9     46     51     46     66     -20
Sheridan full 20     46    41     48     83     -35

Wellens's record incs the Plymouth A which he did not attend.  Sheridan's last 9 starts at Ipswich with the advent of Dom Thompson, Scott Twine etc

Did you watch it? Bloody awful game where we were second best in all areas of the pitch - just like we have been since the Ipswich game.

Barcelona had 82% of the possession in their game today. Making good nearly 900 passes.
They drew 1-1

By itself, yes. Put in context with other stats or better refined (areas of the pitch, number of consecutive passes, chances etc) it can tell you a fair bit about how a team plays.

Well yes but not sure what that's got to do with how useful a particular stat is.

Our 32% stat tells its own story

I said enjoy the result, didn't mention the game.
At the end of the season it's the points that count.
Pretty football is nice but there's no extra bonus for it.
