Hey, I would really love it if you could take 5 or 10 mins of your Lockdown Sunday, answering a few questions on my short survey Smiley

Your responses will be anonymous but will help towards a podcast I am producing along with another presenter. However, if you wish to leave your name and location in your survey response then these may be used in our podcast. We may even want to contact you to appear as a guest as we aim to tackle topical debate and difficult questions that are open to a wide range of public opinion.

Ok so with the above in mind, if you fancy tapping on the link and sharing the thoughts from your inner sanctum they will be very gladly received.

Thanks,
Bamboo

Done.

It is debateable what criteria should apply to the evaluation of art but ultimately the artist's life has no bearing on its quality, imo.

The life of the artist will often (but not invariably) impact on their art and where that occurs it is a subject ripe for "criticism" and exploration.

As far as I recall, Van Gogh never sold a painting (other than to his brother) whilst he was alive.  Next to no one would have had any interest in him at the time.  No more than in you or me.

More interesting than whether an artist's life should impact how we judge their art, would be how should we judge contemporary society's evaluation of art?

Money seems more influential than good old patronage ever used to be and celebrity (more than morality) seems newly ascendant.

What might THAT tell us about us?

In terms of Art and Swindon, IIRC, it was Des Lynam who observed that watching us (even in a 2-1 home defeat to Villa) was "better than sex".

I imagine like more than a few on here, the questions are arty farty art-speak.

I have no opinion on art other than I know what I like when I see it.

The only stuff that had me interested/excited was a couple of Salvador Dali exhibitions I went to.

I have to admit I have absolutely no idea what the questions are actually asking.

So pretty similar to Bamboo's posts on here.

For those seemingly unsure or confused (Aud, it might be those late night bottles of cheap Raki), art is available in more than one medium than just painting of course Smiley

That still doesn’t change my comment on not understanding what the questions actually mean.

If you’re of an artistic bent, then fair enough, but to ask for arty comment on a football forum is asking for trouble!

It's not really "artistic" in the snobby sense and how you appear to perceive it. You have an interest in film, tv, music, maybe even museums or modern installations? No? Not one for any culture? No? Didn't pass opinion on a statue that was installed outside the County Ground? No?

If no to all of the above then fine for sure Smiley The questions are open for expression of those answering (ie not too fixed). The examples are purely there as just that, an example. The area it focuses on is whether are not you can seperate the two polar things. Talent and Moral value. Especially when an "artist" (see, actor, writer, painter, sculptor, musician etc) has done something not socially acceptable. Take Michael Jackson as prime example or the recently departed Phil Spector. Both did (one alleged, the other convicted) terrible things but also were both very talented in their artistic medium. I'm looking for opinion then on if you can't separate those two things without it impacting your own judgement (or media influenced judgement) of these people?

Also, I did put it in the "Non-Footy Forum" section of the forum, you know, like hundred of other topics on here, so it's a poor stick to try and beat with regarding that area. But thanks for your feedback though, it'll really come in handy when producing elements of the show so it's very welcomed indeed Smiley

I think the initial "artistic talent" might come into question regardless of his sexual persuasions. But again, "art" is certainly always up for interpretation.

My mum loved the Bay City Rollers but they have/had a very sketchy background. Shang-a-lang indeed!
