A win is a win and a winning run has to start somewhere. Next up Shrews folded by AS a week today. Play something like tonight or against Hull and we could be sitting somewhere near mid table.

clean sheet!

Curran was ok to be fair.

Broadbent! Must have been through some lows, good to see him get a bit of success

keeper was miles better than we've seen from kovar. not trying to destroy the young lad, but there the facts.

would never in as million years go to a pointless cup game, but enjoyed that

It makes you wonder if Wellens was the problem with Broadbent as there's definitely a decent robust defender there

If you haven't, listen to the LS Pod interview with Broadbent.

As always, I pay very little attention to this tournament or the games but as others have said, there are some positives to have come out of that game, given we are in such a rut.

* A clean sheet at last and a very good performance from our keeper (albeit our backup keeper)
* Tom Broadbent, a competent centre back at this level coming back in, scoring the winning goal and tweeting a happy message on twitter, could be an important squad player this season.
* Much better team and individual performances all over the pitch
* Winning breeds confidence

Feels good to win away from home and keep a clean sheet.

Also pleased to read Pitman was better. We'll need a few more goals from him.

Fair play, Broadbent is a nightmare for defenders to deal with.

Perhaps move him up top and do a Maurice Owen on Pitman?

Normally not arsed with these games, but with us being in such a state of flux, was keen to see how things develop.

First thing first, I was quite strong in my belief that we'd never go 343 with RW but Hunt really got it to work. I'd defo be looking at it for Saturday. It gave us more solidity, our FBs are perfect for it (Iandolo was excellent until he got injured) and we have enough CBs with the flexibility to play it.

Players wise:
Fryer - Couldn't have done much more. Good under the high ball, string of solid saves, good distribution. Can we do any harm putting him in for Saturday?

Hunt, Iandolo, Odimayo, Baudry... all solid enough.

Curran didn't look out of place for once.

Big Tom - I forgot how much of a beast he is. Physically a different level to the rest of our CBs. Clearly blowing at the end, and not sure he's ready to play 90 in the league, but right back among our options that's for sure.

Haines and M Smith kept it simple. With the 2 in there in a 343, their game was simplified. Win the ball, keep the ball. Smith again showed great class in transition and some of his passes were sublime.

The front 3. Pitman was better. Much better. Not great, but did manage to use his body and bring the speed merchants into the game. Unlucky not to score too - unbelievable save from the keeper. Stevens and Smith are so dangerous but between them were wasteful in front of goal. The shape gives us options though.

All in all, the shape was super interesting and I hope we stick with it. I'd like to see us go with the following on Saturday.

                Fryer
    Caddis Baudry Odimayo
Hunt  A Grant  M Smith  Donohue
    Stevens  Hope  J Smith

Moving forward, Iandolo and Donohue are great options as LWB. Lyden in for A Grant when he's fully fit. Zeki as the LCB would be ideal and a little further ahead, Conroy is perfect for the middle CB. We've got plenty of options across the front 3 - T Smith and DJ would be lethal in those wide forward spots too, with a bit more quality in front of goal perhaps.

Anyone think Odimayo is wasted as a CB? I could see him playing CM.

I've been wondering it might just be a matter of time before he's at least tried as a CM.

I think he has the potential to play anywhere. A season in the defence will do him good long term but he could be a beast of a CDM.
