Oxford City or Oxford United?

When you get down to it, there’s surely no difference, is there?

Well, I call Oxford City "town" as in town versus gown.

I call Oxford United yellow, piss-stain ridden, pension-stealing, banana-wielding inbreds from the ass end of Headington.

The only time I saw Don Rogers play was at Oxford City's old ground.
My recollections of The Don go right through his career for Swindon, and God he was a lazy player.
He would often be totally invisible for 99% of a game, but in the remaining couple of minutes ...... it was poetry in motion. He and an overlapping John Trollope could produce a goal from absolutely nowhere in just seconds, and his finishing (when at his best) was incredible.  The only current equivalent I can think of is the way Liverpool break from the back at full speed (although in fairness Arsenal with Aubameyang are doing it too).  Rogers was a class above the level at with Swindon were playing, but was found out when he moved away from the County Ground.  Great memories, though.

You must be a really old bastard then.

I saw him play for The Falcon in the FA Pub Cup or similar.

Delighted to say I saw him in his pomp.

Nobody has gotten close since.

Never signing the striker Ken based on this.

From that video it appears...

Jonny Smith looks very handy wide right and cutting inside.

Disappointing the way the Brentford scorer waltzed through our defence without a challenge and scored with a fairly soft finish.

Richards looks like a bit of a barn door Billy in front of goal.

Fryer looks pretty decent in goal, certainly be a good back up.

Twine finished really well from a Jonny Smith cross close in.

Hope looked like he did ok.

Also, who was the big built black defender/midfielder number 22 for us? didn't look like Reid.

Cracking highlights against a decent young technical Brentford team

Agree with that, J Smith looks a bit like a cross between Pritchard and Ritchie when they played at this level for us.

Hope had some decent touches in those highlights, couple of good balls in and certainly has that strikers instinct in him as well.  I assume he has some issues playing through the middle, otherwise you'd think that is where he should play based on what we've seen so far.  Maybe not so good with his back to goal.

On the evidence thus far, Curran is not going to be with us too much longer, this is well above his level.

I agree with everything apart from Fryer who didn't convince me

My mate who was at the game said he looked pretty handy all game and had decent distribution too. I think he did what was needed e.g. getting his body in the way of shots, yes he made a couple of not great saves but when I look at him I would say hes better than Henry, Matthews and for that matter RCC and Moore when they were with us.

He would only be back up if he did sign though.
