It was their U23’s, no first team players.

Not seen a team sheet anywhere. Got to take their word for it, I suppose.

Wellens has stated that Town can't play local Non-League teams because they hadn't been tested so, with that in mind, to play a pro U23 side instead makes sense.

That seems odd, up here for instance Workington played a friendly away at Penrith at the weekend, in Eden where new lock down is being threatened, cannot imagine Penrith who are in Northern League D1 are getting tested rigorously, likewise why was Nuneaton acceptable?

Nuneaton had been tested.

I don't know. Maybe because our more local and COVID-19 tested sides have their pre-season schedules in place? Supermarine published their pre-season schedule a good while back. Non-League clubs don't *need* Swindon Town at the moment because it's not going to generate money.

There has been a feeling of rushing a schedule through which is understandable.

Not sure there's much need to dwell on why we're playing an U23s side during early Pre-Season.

It was their U23’s, no first team players.
My Rovers supporting mate said they played 6 trialists during the match with a couple of players with some experience but most were younger players.

We, by comparison, played 4 trialists + Matthews, Reid, Giamattei, Haines, McGilp, Twine all who are all U23 players and probably add Iandolo to that list too.

So do we get the bragging rights or not then?

Quite. There does seem to be a feel of perhaps over-examining what's essentially a runout for fitness and a chance to look at some trialists. Pleased to see Scott Twine of Scott Twine Day fame scored though.

Wellens said he wanted the first couple of matches to be ones that we could basically walk through have a bit of possession and get some minutes into players legs without being pressured or closed down, who the opposition were is largely immaterial.  We'll now step it up against Coventry on Saturday I'd imagine.

Absolutely, and rightly so, start with easier teams like Nuneaton and Bristol Rovers before we play better teams like Coventy.

He's been told he will be allowed to leave either on loan or permanently, but not actually released per se
