Thompson is a free agent, didn’t get a game in a short spell at Exeter and never played a league game or non league other than a spell at Chippenham. Sounds like a bit of a favour rather than what we need unless he’ll be a cheap backup. |

Someone like Steve Hale might have recommended him.
Town might have needed a local goalkeeper at short notice (although Matthews could have played the 90).
We might be looking for a younger GK as back-up.
Who knows? Not I.

Any idea what the Rovers team was? They seem very reluctant to even confirm a game actually took place, let alone the score, team etc.
Seems unlikely with such a short pre season a club would use a friendly fixture just for U23s.
