I have been advised to opt out or bypass the new ruling, about Facebook being able to use any information about you as they see fit. I'm not much of a techy, but perhaps members could give their opinions on the possible effects of this.

Just in case....
Don’t forget today starts the new Facebook rule where they can use your photos. Don't forget the Deadline is today!!! It can be used in court cases in litigation against you. Everything you've ever posted becomes public from today - even messages that have been deleted. It costs nothing for a simple copy and paste, better safe than sorry.
I do not give Facebook or any entities associated with Facebook permission to use my pictures, information, messages or posts, both past and future. With this statement, I give notice to Facebook it is strictly forbidden to disclose, copy, distribute, or take any other action against me based on this profile and/or its contents. The . information. The violation of privacy can be punished by law NOTE: Facebook is now a public entity. All members must post a note like this.
If you prefer, you can copy and paste this version. If you do not publish a statement at least once it will be tacitly allowing the use of your photos, as well as the information contained in the profile status updates. DO NOT SHARE. Copy and paste.
Their new algorithm chooses the same few people - about 25 - who will read your posts.
Therefore:
Hold your finger down anywhere in this post and "copy" will pop up. Click "copy". Then go to your page, start a new post and put your finger anywhere in the blank field. "Paste" will pop up and click paste
This will bypass the system.
I DO NOT GIVE FACEBOOK PERMISSION TO SHARE ANYTHING OF MINE., THAT I HAVE PUT ON THEIR SITE, . PICTURES, CURRENT OR PAST POSTS, PHONE NUMBERS OR EMAILS.. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING CAN BE USED IN ANY FORM WITHOUT MY WRITTEN PERMISSION OR VERBAL CONSENT.q1u

People need to start learning to do their own fact checking (not directed at you normy, general observation. Actually, it's mainly aimed at my Dad)

It's fake, been going around for years.

No matter what legislation comes out, setting something as your Facebook status is not going to change the terms and conditions of the service.

Generally, treat any thing that has as its first priority getting you to re-share it with extreme suspicion.

Unfortunately Normy, as others have pointed out...this is about as genuine as those posts on FB that say "this is a very special month, there will be five Sundays and this will never happen again until 2318. Share now and good fortune will come your way."

When the reality is, there are usually at least three months with five Sundays in them during the course of a year (I think there's been two already this year). I'd be more inclined to believe them if they said it was a month of Sundays  Smiley

The main point here is that you're on the TEF, are well and doing what we* all do best...spouting bollocks.

What is the point of such posts? I can't see who it benefits. Surely the originator must gain from them in some manner?

I read up on this a while ago, I believe it's called 'like farming'. If a fb page gets a certain number of likes then it can be sold on and edited while retaining the likes. I may not be completely remembering correctly but it's something along those lines

Essentially indirect (sometimes more obvious than not) access to data. No doubt someone somewhere scraping the data and as STG says then selling it on. Look up something like Power Venture (no not LP related).

Depending on your angle, some would see it as a use for good; especially when used for price comparison sites. Obviously some of the companies wouldn't want the consumer having all that data to hand.

Yet when it is used for bad then that of course is not what most of us want. I know for certain there are instances of scraping to flag inactive accounts, them subsequently being hacked/sold to companies so they can create positive "real" reviews for their products. Unfortunately, a lot of the time these are accounts of deceased people. Which, however anyone wants to look at it, is pretty disgusting. Not much short of phone tapping.

Thanks for your comments guys. My family and friends use FB a lot for photos and community matters, and I have always felt uneasy about possible lack of privacy.

I quite enjoy the spouting of bollocks on here, and long may it continue!
