Let’s have a few ‘A’s

For me, it’s got to be Arsenal and although the Cup Final and the 4-3 replay win were the ‘glory’ games, Billy Tucker’s goal at Highbury earned that replay. What an night that was!

"Animal" - Brian Williams. Great player in that late 70's team.

Ibón Pérez Arrieta, or maybe Charlie Austin. Hard to pick between those two.

To go with Arsenal and Animal, I will add 2 great goalkeepers for very different reasons.

Jimmy Allan a wonderful often brilliant Scottish goalkeeper whos career was cut short by a horrific challenge from the Rochdale Thug Steve Johnson that shattered his arm. he was called up to a Scotland squad once and massively under rated.

The other was Kenny Allen, a huge gentle giant that could catch anything thrown into the box and his quick distribution was a huge factor in our championship winning season in Macari in 85, his actual shot stopping was not quite up to it though.

One other massive name in the A's was the great Ossie Ardiles a man who I had the pleasure of seeing in a Town shirt before retiring to become manager rather than player manager, even if I did only see him play for 30 mins for Swindon. Before he became a legend as manager.

Arkell's has to be a pretty reasonable shout for an A in historical terms.

I never saw him play.  Really wish I had.

My favourite 'A' has to be the Chief, Wayne Allison.  I stlll have a vivid memory of him openly celebrating a goal in front of Bristol City fans on the Bank after they had been goading him for the entire game.  It was poetic.

A great target man, one of the best in a Town shirt, he shook my hand when walking around the pitch after winning the Title under McMahon as I guarded the goal posts when I was stewarding and he has the biggest hands I have ever seen, I have huge hands but his engulfed mine.

A great target man but he could hit some cracking goals too like the FA cup one against Cardiff from outside the box, a real big skillful player.

Anfield, brilliant goal by John Moncur. He was involved at the beginning, middle and end of the move and a goal worthy of the stage it was scored on.
