Hi all,

Firstly, apologies if this is in the wrong section of the forum.

I am in the process of writing an article for a football publication about the recent temporary installation of the Kerry Mucklowe statue from This Country at the County Ground for the Grimsby Town game. I wanted to gauge some opinions from Swindon fans over your reaction to the statue when you saw it. Was it received positively on the whole? With chuckles? Any confusion? Has the publicity of the show's main character being a huge Swindon fan been welcomed by the club?

Any thoughts you could provide me with would be enormously helpful. Thank you!

Best wishes,
Steven

My twitter feed on the day seemed to suggest it was very well received.  It seemed to hit the spot with a lot of people.  There were plenty of comments to the effect that, at last, the club was starting to engage well with the fans.  It was a humorous gesture, and was received that way also.

It was really funny. The only problem is I own two of the shirts that Kerry has and now my wife calls them "my Kerry shirts".

I didn't see it in person, obviously, but I thought it was cool.

It seemed to ruffle the feathers of a few Oxford fans, which is always a good thing.

Me too. Although tbf I only wear them for running, but the missus did point out that "That's what you look like when you go running in that shirt" (the white one). Thanks love

And to answer the original question, I thought it was pretty funny as did my two teenage lads who are much harder to impress, being teenagers and all

I thought it was funny.

In general they've never really taken the piss out of Swindon either, so it's good publicity!

plus, growing up in the same hometown as them I like to think the likes of us Town fan shirters influenced their writing. Smiley

Nice for a couple of locals to do well for themselves.

I thought it was excellent TBH, got some national exposure for the club and the TV programme, everyones a winner.

Yeah it's great, although obviously there's a bit of fun poking, the show treats the club with a nice fondness.

Oi Rich. You tried to get Daisy and Charlie Cooper onto your podcast? Cheesy

Didn’t read thread title properly, thought it was going to be about people’s opinions on giving her one or not

I would have liked one on in 'character' but didn't get very far on that front.

Statue was very funny as was the advert the BBC had on the TE. It's always better if your club can embrace a bit of self deprecating humour.

I remember reading Bristol City reject the chance to have their shirts in Hot Fuzz and Rovers agreed. Fair play to the latter. Perhaps it was because Cowlin was on the shirts?
