Carlisle manager Beech getting the excuses in early -

“They’re League One players on League One budgets.”

“I know managers will play it down but they have got a massive budget, because I do know of some of the players they’ve recruited – I did have a little knock on the door myself and didn’t get them.”

“The pressure is really on them to make sure they can back up their investment and get promoted. On us is the challenge to say ok, we’re taking on the best in the league".

“They’re backed up with a right-footed left-back [Rob Hunt] and [Paul] Caddis with his experience. People would think, ‘We can get at him, run at him, he’s getting old’ but it doesn’t work like that, they use their bodies well, get help off the linesmen and referees, talk them in, almost referee the games – young referees get sucked into the way they go about that, they’re very clever".

Does sound a bit like it. That said, how many times over the years have we been on the receiving end of teams like we’re supposed to be as described by their manager?

Always good to hear the views of opposing fans as long as they are not absolute idiots like PNEThor who had some form of serious mental issue.

Should be a decent game, you have made a few signings in the window and got rid of a few too like the massively under performing Carroll who looked half decent with us but a walking red card.

A few good memories of games with your lads over the years, had a few visits up to the Northern outpost, was up there ironically for the first game at the CG this season, bad timing!

The special train in 84 was a great day out, leaving Swindon at 7 and arriving in Carlisle at 2 and having a massive police escort to the ground, about 1,000 of us in the rain for a hard fought 1-1 draw and then beating you in the replay as you were doing well in Div 2 back then and us in Div 4 but we were at our lowest ebb and on the brink of our upturn then under Macari a couple of seasons after.

Glad the pitch is sorted as we have faced a fair few teams with shocking pitches, although your comment about having one of the finest pitches in the land, you haven't seen the County Ground pitch then Wink

Anyway please post your thoughts after the game and ignore any insulting remarks you may get, its great to hear the views of us and your team afterwards, so few fans do that now, it used to be common, now its just insult after insult, honest fans of other teams always welcome!

Clear blue sky over Brunton Park at the moment. Don’t know how long that will last.

The forecast must have put quite a few off going.

Arrived and in the pub, bit of rain on the m6 but sunny in Carlisle atm.

Roadworks near the ground which is causing traffic issues so best parking in Botcherby I think it's called otherwise it'll be a nightmare after the game!

Pre match waitin' for the wind in the William Rufus.
Sunny and ok in the Border City at the moment.

I guess border reiving will become all the rage around here again when the Scots go their own way.
So, first prize of an ill gotten heifer to anyone who can name the two former Town managers who also played for Carlisle.

They've like a good siege or two over the years here.
Hopefully the locals will be suitably impressed when their football team finds itself surrounded by Anthony Grant later on.

Hope the trains will still be working this evening and safe journey to those heading home in their horseless carriages.
In the meantime there is drinking to be done.

Yes, John Gorman.
The other one was before Beamish.

No, before him and an association with the other end of the A420 as well.

So who’s out on the town in Carlisle after we (fingers crossed) pick up all three points today?
Any recommendations on where to go for a good night out, been a long time since I’ve been!

I'm no help as although I've stayed over a couple of times. I have no clue where i went, although I did enjoy it. I do know I went to subway once there, as I woke up in the premier inn the next day with half a foot long on my pillow.

No, before him.
Just guessing. Couldn’t be Les Allen or Sir Danny. Maybe Fred Ford but I think he was a localish fella
