I think winning might be achieved if we manage to score more goals than they do.

There are mystic forces involved when playing Cheltenham. First and foremost lets not concede more than them

What about own goals?
That would mess up your theory

Place some dead animals in their changing room,a couple of smelly rats and a pidgeon should do it.
Get someone to piss in the corner so the whole room has that pungent smell.

The conditions were difficult but don't think it played too much of a part in how we played (bar Taylor having a go from distance a few times) we played our game throughout and thoroughly deserved the win. Newport tried to use it to their advantage (either that or they are just generally hoofy bastards) and failed really. Defence held strong, bar a few panicky moments early on.

Hard to believe they are top 7... Makes it even more depressing how far down the table we are. At least there are signs now that it could change.

The comment that we built the ground deliberately to have a wind advantage made me chuckle. Yep, once every 10 years when we have wind like Saturday we always win and it makes it well worth it. Jesus.

Given the historic beginnings of the club, it's much more likely to have been sited on religious grounds, being East to west an all

As to why the pitch is orientated the west/ east way is interesting as I've no idea... and not sure we could ever find out.

RedBuck's theory as good as anything.   Originally the pitch was more on the cricket ground, although I'm not sure we know where exactly.

My best guess, would be it was simply in order to fit it in and give the cricket outfield it's best shape, and avoid poking into what was originally called Stratton Road, it made sense.

Something whcih has fascinated me for a while on which I've never really seen any info, is that in the 20's, there was no CG Extension as a park, but rather a number of railway sidings used to abutt the back of the Bank.

The only game I have seen with a similar wind was the FA cup game at home to Stevenage in 98 when Digby couldn't clear the box with his kicks let alone reach the half way line.

Check out the kick 2mins into the video!

Going off thread a bit, IIRC correctly Stevenage got Newcastle in the next round and as I was living up there we went to the game, the Stevenage manager Fairclough had made a complete bellend of himself in the intervening period and most neutrals strangely anted Newcastle to win.
