Any recommendations for walks fellow townenders? Not necessarily in Wiltshire, although I am thinking of heading to the Vale of Pewsey tomorrow.

A couple of weeks back I did this walk in the brecon beacons...

More of a stroll than a walk for some I guess, but enough for me.

some of the cotswold way has great views if you don't mind hills. depends how far you want to go

if you have a couple of cars you can leave one at one end and drive to the start. if you look at some of the shorter stages on here it may give some ideas:

I live on the very edge of the cotswolds, my favourite local walk is in Wooton under edge with a view over into Wales.

I should probably look at other trails though.

There's enough in the Vale of Pewsey area to keep a sane thinking man/woman comtent for a life time. I've done some of those Brecon walks in a cold winter... amazing, get the ice axe out and hack your way up. Only small really but adventurous enough for me.

Couple of weeks ago, I stumbled across this place... Huish

What a treasure, starting to seriously fall down, and the local population is about 20.... David Niven's ex wife is in the graveyard. I'm a fan of stained glass windows, and some lovely examples of Victorian work.

I don't want to recommend as such, but just go and have a wander.

This is a fairly good one. Takes in Wayland's Smithy, Uffington White Horse, Ashdown House.

Yes is a good one that.

https://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/ridgeway/route/aldbourne-circular-route is another.

Park at Chiseldon and there are many walks to be had, short walk to the Ridgeway.

If you're out that way, and have 10 minutes to kill, then this little place is worth a look....

Take a walk around the crystal clear waters at Coate. Beautiful walk around what was once a country park, where you can see the new houses and encroaching urban sprawl.

The walk up to Tan Hill from the canal tests the fitness... I've a few routes which involve using buses, the 49 get off at Bishop's Cannings then pick up tow path at Horton, then a choice of paths over the top to Avebury for bus back. Or X5 to Oare then up to Gopher Wood and a whole heap of options to get back to Avebury for 49 return.

Something I've noticed is that Tan Hill/ Rybury has its own sort of micro climate 3 times now I've been caught in rain which drifts up from the Somerset levels, dumps on the Downs, but has gone by te time you get back to Avebury, where it will be dry.

Good circular walk from The Crown at Bishops Cannings. Claim a well deserved reward in The Crown after. Decent pub too !

The Bridge, down the lane at what I call Horton, but it's on the K and A rather than in the village is decent as well.

Been in there a couple of times, sometimes a job to find a keyholder and the opening times rely on volunteers.

That looks great, what's it like for livestock? i.e. can I run it with the dog off the lead?
