Kante is an absolute beast. He's got to be the best midfielder in the world now. He's like an up to date McHale and Kamara rolled into one.
Nice spot, Chalkies.  People going on about Messi not showing up.  There was a reason for that.

Well, there’s been some right old shite on offer today.

If we are only half decent we should go a long way.

If Spain and Croatia can offer shite, we're more than capable of beating aspect that too!

How England and Colombia respond to being last up and knowing the complete picture will be the test. Somebody will choke.

Best deliberate pen in history.

Suarez was good in 2010.

The fact that Jorgensen probably knew that he wouldn't be sent-off too.

I'd hope the same in both scenarios.

edit: if ref thought it was deliberately done it therefore should be red. if he thought foul was accidental while trying to play ball, no red due to double jeopardy.

personally think he just lunged and hoped for best, so probably red

did what he had to and the Danes still have a chance

Hopefully they lose in the shootout, otherwise poor Bilic might explode

The right team won in terms of justice but my god Croatia played some shit tonight. Kudos to both 'keepers though in the shootout. Big balls goes to Modric.

I'm saying they have been built up more so by the media, in part thanks to their characters. Ronaldo has at least performed in Tournaments (however he wasn't in this match tonight) as has won something at International level. Messi hasn't. There is no doubting they are great individual players but as I say, Godin is easily the best CB in the World currently.

I feel that the Messi and Ronaldo era (and much of the Spanish team) is coming to an end. Not just because of age but it is a factor and with that becomes a reduction in the ability to keep on "pulling it out the bag".

Make no mistake, they have both been World Class but that title is starting to be fade somewhat and be questioned. Ronaldo I think has the ability to adapt but Messi has always been torn at international level.

Messi at international level-
2016 lost Copa America final on pens
2015 lost Copa America final on pens
2014 lost World Cup final extra time goal
2011 lost Copa America 1/4 final on pens
2010 lost World Cup 1/4 final
2007 lost Copa America final
2006 lost World Cup 1/4 final on pens

Yes winning is important and ultimately is what counts but its hard to judge a player/team failure on penalty shootout success. A penalty kick from one of his team mates is what separates him and Ronaldo on international trophies

Similarly England may not have had success in 50+ years but its only been a penalty failure that has stopped us on so many occasions. (or a Ronaldinho fluke/ sol campbell disallowed goal, petulant red cards) Excuses? yes. but you do need some luck and we are overdue some

Not sure if it will be England but i think an outsider could get the job done this year.
