Even if, as is likely, we go out at the next stage, I think Gareth should keep his job.

It was not our first XI and they were clearly not 'that' up for it.

It's the fucking World Cup. The pinnacle of a career. They should've been playing to win and for the possibility of starting the next game.

For me, Southgate got it wrong. Play the strongest team, score goals, win games.

I'd liked his refreshing honesty with the press up until before kick off. His chat with ITV after the game completely undid that. Waffled a load of bullshit about how we kept going. We had one shot on target FFS.

At least it's dampened expectations which were starting to rise unrealistically.

Mainly in the media to be fair. I like the bbc player rater thingy. It has been putting things into perspective. No england player has been above 7.1 in any game, and I think then only 2 players in 3 games. Tonights should be pretty grim reading.

It's a young team. If it's allowed to develop together with Southgate at the helm, we could be in for some good tournaments further down the line.

You just know he's going to get busted by the Sun getting watching a porno or whatever, and sacked by the dinosaurs the FA, though.

Maybe with the next lot, with 4 or 5 of these current ones.  One thing i do know for sure now not watching prem football, is that Rashford isnt a striker. Could be a good midfielder though.

that means fuck all, Picking and choosing when to bother is the height of arrogance,
Southgate wanted 2nd spot thinking it would be an easier route, we shall see

That's got precisely nothing to do with what you said.

Must say though, although the game was rubbish it did produce the funniest thing yet with batchshuyi (sp) smashing his self in the face with the ball when they scored Smiley

Cut Southgate some slack. He was a bit flustered but he's got to pretend that he's gutted with the way this has gone.

I'd have definitely rested players. Progression after game 2 is a luxury therefore why not make the most of it?

If we lost to Belgium and somebody like Kane pulled up then Southgate would have faced an absolute beating from the nation.

I’m going out on a limb and will suggest that the team who played tonight mostly won’t be playing on Tuesday, tonight’s result will have little bearing on Tuesday

The curse of ITV has struck again.

England usually lose (or don't win) in tournaments when on ITV.

Unfortunately ITV are showing the Colombia game Sad

bloody hell, I don't care whether we get Columbia or Japan, but Southgate was a fool to overlook the ITV factor.

Speaking of ITV and the fact they should never be allowed to broadcast any football at all ever, did anyone else completely lose pictures and sound for about 2-3 mins around the hour mark? We still had BBC, Ch 4/5 etc but ITV was just completely blank, not even snow, just a black screen.
