One of the pundits (can't remember who but could well have been Keano as it's the sort of thing he would say) said Southgate should just pick his best XI and play to win. I agree with this - too much overthinking goes on these days
I can see why GS might want to rest players and give some of the benchers a run out but this risks killing out momentum. I doubt Kane would want to sit out the Belgium game, not with the Golden Boot in his sights.

They have played Monday, Sunday, Thursday which is much the same as a normal league programme, its hardly taxing and you don't tend to see managers resting players over an, at best 7 game season! I would change out Sterling for (just about anyone really but in reality Rashford) just to see if this works better and that's probably about it.

Rose for Young, Rashford for Sterling.

Wouldn’t start Kane in a million years, no upside only potential downside

Really? We should set up to win. Fuck about and you end up playing someone you'd rather not + there is a spray painted boot to consider.

Not a big difference in finishing 1st or 2nd given the last 16 opponents and the golden boot shouldn’t be a consideration IMO If he gets injured we are done

I'd be tempted to rest him as well.

Rather a big call to make resting the Captain?

I believe it's Chester i.e. slightly toned down Scouse - like Michael Owen.

I think he is a Cheshire lad, so its rather generic north west.

Drops in those weird sounding Cockney-esque tones, every now and again. I know he played for Fulham "When I was at Fulham..." but I'm surprised if that caused a massive change. Seeing as he's from an area with a strong accent anyway. Listen, it's definitely an odd set of sounds he makes at times.

I actually looked at his Wiki to check after I had posted and it is Chester, I was more shocked to see that he played the most games at Liverpool, I assumed it would be Fulham. I actually like his co-commentary as if the game is shite he sounds as bored as the rest of us!

Quite right ...i.e. don't overthink it and try to be too clever...
